Re: Canucks Young Guns
My hope is that Trymakin can replace what Tanev brings. Rafferty should be able to replace what Stetcher brings. Juolevi can eventually take Benn or Fantenberg's spot. So we have the room to fit them all in but it means letting all three of Stetcher, Tanev and Fantenberg walk for nothing. We will certainly get younger, cheaper but less experienced.
I'd be ok with re-signing Tanev but only for 2 years. He has been healthy this year and it shows in our systems play and in the win column. But his history is scary. Can he remain durable moving forward. But you cant trade him while we are in the playoff hunt.

The only HW the Canucks need

I agree, no blockbusters, and maybe even not moving out the farm/press box pieces like Benn, Schaller, Baerstchi (which would clear over $6 mil in cap space). I expect more of a pump-n-dump in the playoffs/down the stretch for those guys, followed by a trade in the off-season.5thhorseman wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 10:03 am
I'll go out on a limb and suggest that we won't see a blockbuster trade from Benning. Doesn't seem to be his style. And I'm okay with that.

I'm with you Wids...I think we see the Tan-man walk and his shoes filled from within for much less than he commands from Toilet.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 11:27 am My hope is that Trymakin can replace what Tanev brings. *unless he has strong enough ties to the team to come back for cheap....obviously. Who knows where his brain is at

I think people vastly underrate Chris Tanev.

Re: Canucks Young Guns
Hes going to be into the 6-7 range as a UFA and the Canucks cant afford that....especially considering his apparent inability to avoid injury.

I don’t think he will get that. He loves it here. See if you can get him for 3 years at 5 million per. But yeah if he wants something starting with a 6, you let him walk. Same with Jacob. Eriksson/Sutter/Beagle may cost this team a good player this summer. The Brown Wizard wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 1:10 pmHes going to be into the 6-7 range as a UFA and the Canucks cant afford that....especially considering his apparent inability to avoid injury.

Re: Canucks Young Guns
His agent will be comparing his worth to Myers contract for sure and it'll be hard to argue that figure. Chris is a perfect counter to Hughes roving.Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 1:18 pmI don’t think he will get that. He loves it here. See if you can get him for 3 years at 5 million per. Hes going to want to get paid for his last big money contract. I just cant see him taking that kind of bath. I wouldn't

Re: Canucks Young Guns
He’s definitely a better player than Myers by a fair bit. But Myers has been a lot more durable and has a cunt hair more offence to his game. Defensively they aren’t close.

Re: Canucks Young Guns
No no! Not his play OR his compete level or that he's a good team-mate. It's the injury history that has been an ongoing problem.
Lack of offense creeps into the equation a bit. So-so shot.
Put all that together and he's barely worth what he's been making. For me, and with our present financial standing there is no-way
to justify a raise or even an equal re-sign. Well Maaaaaaybe equal. Big signings after next year and if the role can be filled as adequately
with a younger player from within the Org., you pretty much have to.
Again,he's been a good team-mate and hasn't caused problems of any kind.
Slight chance he does something eccentric?

Gomer he is easily worth 5 x 3 years.Micky wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 2:40 pmNo no! Not his play OR his compete level or that he's a good team-mate. It's the injury history that has been an ongoing problem.

Re: Canucks Young Guns
Would you move Tanev if that coveted 1-15 OA pick is coming back?
I would imagine Benny already has an idea what they are looking for value wise...could we see an under the radar move by the deadline if he already knows Tanev will be walking? Is hanging onto him as a rental wise?
ALso, he has expressed his desire to resign Marky but I have yet to hear anything along those lines regarding Tanev. This may be an indicator of what will happen...
Thoughts?

Re: Canucks Young Guns
you could say we actually had 100% bad luck. No team has dropped more spots combined in the draft that us. We dropped the max each year, I think?
Props to Jimbro. He hasn't gone 100% with his picks, but he got it right more times than not, and picked some diamonds that the 'experts' missed.. as well as done some magic with the 5 or 6 NCAA free agent signings (just like extra picks)
