You can’t fix stupid :lol
Where do you get the 20% chance of an impact player in the second round?

A number you are making up?

2011 - 2 of 30 have 300 games, 7% six seasons after being drafted (Saad and Kucherov)
2010 - 2 of 30 have 300 games, 7% seven seasons after being drafted (Tofolli and Faulk)
2009 - 2 of 30 have 400 games, 7% eight seasons after being drafted (O'Reilly and Clifford)
2008 - 3 of 30 have 400 games, 10% nine seasons after being drafted (Josi, Stepan and Hamonic)
2007 - 2 of 30 have 500 games, 7% ten seasons after being drafted (Suban and Simmonds)
2006 - 2 of 30 have 600 games, 10% eleven seasons after being drafted (Kuliman, Lucic)
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Drafted by the Kings in 2014 2nd round, Rowland McKeowan has a couple of years of development to go, but has one NHL game under his belt. That is one more than Canuck 2nd round pick that year, Thatcher Demko and 78 less than Canuck 3rd round pick the same year Nikita Tryamkin.
Lol because da Kings sewected Mckeown dats who da Canucks would have sewected. Must be dat Mckeown guy because dats was da pick day twaded for my idol Winden Vey. Dats how dese twades wook
Montador and Dvorak would't have been on the board.

How many have made it to more than 100 since being drafted?

2012 Draft 2nd round 6 of 30 player, 20%
2012 Draft 3rd round 3 of 30 player, 10%

2011 Draft (Six years since being drafted) 2nd round 14 of 30 player, 47%.....13 of 30 haven't played 50 NHL games
2011 Draft (Six years since being drafted) 3rd round 7 of 30 player, 23%

2010 Draft (Seven years since being drafted) 2nd round 12 of 30 player, 40%.....15 of 30 haven't played 50 NHL games
2010 Draft (Seven years since being drafted) 3rd round 5 of 30 player, 17%

2009 Draft (Eight years since being drafted) 2nd round 12 of 30 player, 40%.....9 of 30 have played more than 200 NHL games
2009 Draft (Eight years since being drafted) 3rd round 8 of 30 player, 27%

2008 Draft (Nine years since being drafted) 2nd round 12 of 30 player, 40%.....7 of 30 have played more than 200 NHL games
2008 Draft (Nine years since being drafted) 3rd round 6 of 30 player, 20%

2007 Draft (Ten years since being drafted) 2nd round 7 of 30 player, 23%.....4 of 30 have played more than 200 NHL games
2007 Draft (Ten years since being drafted) 3rd round 6 of 30 player, 20%

2006 Draft (Eleven years since being drafted) 2nd round 13 of 30 player, 43%.....9 of 30 have played more than 200 NHL games
2006 Draft (Eleven years since being drafted) 3rd round 8 of 30 player, 27%

So you're looking at around a 40% chance of getting 100+ games out of a 2nd round pick and less than 30% chance of getting 200+ games.

From a third round, you're looking at 20% - 25% chance of getting 100+ games.
I thought JB was a genius. If he is, his picks should be much better than the average (i.e. the above information is useless for projecting how JB's picks will (or would) do).

Yes, it's more constructive to concentrate on the future, but it's unwise to ignore lessons from the past.

While it seems likely that the Canucks would have won the Cup by now had they selected Kopitar, I am unwilling to concede that draft was a screw-up. We'll never know how good Bourdon could have been -- maybe good enough to have also been a major contributor to a championship. That was just tragically bad luck.

In my opinion, the draft that cost them a Cup via screw-up (as opposed to tragedy) was 1990. I won't pretend that I knew who Jagr and Brodeur would become (and it has come to light since the Jagr might really not have been available had Vancouver selected him), but if Quinn had simply gone with the obvious choices in Primeau and Tkachuk (whom I did want), it seems likely that the Canucks win in '94.

It seems that with this franchise, when it comes to bad luck and poor choices, it is pretty much take your pick.

Don't forget that pre mental breakdown Vey was a different player than post mental breakdown Vey.

Almost everyone here loved the 50th overall for pre mental breakdown Vey trade.

As a matter of fact YOU Blobert were on the Vey bandwagon...

Most people here will recall that Blobby was on the Lord Benning bandwagon in those days.

As you can see, Blob labeled everyone who wasn't on said bandwagon "the urine crew".

Twas for irony's sake that, once Blob turned on GMJB, he was crowned chief of dat dere crew.

And so on.

It was when post mental breakdown Vey showed up that folks began 2nd-guessing the trade.

You still inferred a good point. If Gillis was the GM of Colorado, it is a terrible trade. If Benning is the GM, it is a great trade, as statistically, Gilis's picks crap the bed.

Overall, with average numbers, Sakic did alright, alright, alright.

From SN:

Oilers acquire Mike Cammalleri from Kings for Jussi Jokinen

Sportsnet Staff
November 14, 2017, 7:16 PM
The Edmonton Oilers have acquired Mike Cammalleri from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Jussi Jokinen.

Cammalleri has three goals and seven points in 15 games this season, his second stint with the Kings after signing a one-year contract with the team on July 1.

Jokinen has just one assist in 14 games for the Oilers, which signed the 34-year-old to a one-year contract on July 7 after the Finn was bought out by the Florida Panthers.

Edmonton has struggled to put the puck in the net this season, and in Cammalleri the team has found an experienced sniper who’s hit the 20-goal mark six times in his career.

I don't understand why LA does this trade. Cammalleri seems infinitely more productive than Jokinen this season, and the cap hits are pretty damned close. Was there a pick thrown in?

Apparently Cammalleri complained about his lack of icetime in LA.

Cammalleri is the flashier of the two and was putting up points, but is the value that far off?

(dunno)

I'm guessing Jokinen is okay with a bottom-six/defensive-forward role at this stage of his career.

Jokinen has always been a good penalty killer, good defensively, great in the dot (when called upon).

See it's ok to trade players you just signed. :D
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.
