The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. Just wtf is happening to this planet?

All the Sportsnet crew... and I mean ALL... are saying today's NHL games should have been cancelled!

They ALL went out of their way to say this.

Christine Simpson said she is "sick to her stomach" that these games are being played! :wow:

All this because an unarmed black man, was shot by the police in America on Sunday.

Yes, it's utterly horrible that fellow was shot, but... cancel NHL playoff games because of it??

Is there a real-life invasion of the body snatchers going on? Am I the only sane one left?
I heard he was resisting arrest, fighting cops, and tried to run to his car and shit... not sure if it’s true, but like Abe Lincoln once said:
“Don’t believe everything you read on the internet”
He's a wanted child sex offender too, that's our new poster boy for police violence.
Actually - no.

Yeah.. a part of a video only makes me want to ask questions like
What escalated this to the point that guns were drawn?
What was he reaching for when he first opened the door to his car?
Why was he out of his car in the first place if he was simply pulled over?
Why was he resisting arrest and walking away?

... not saying this couldn’t have been handled different, or ended different, or that the cops were right or anything..
just saying I bet there is more to this than a 20 second video..
The 'Chain of Command' is the chain I am going to beat you with until you understand I am in charge.

Not that I want it to happen, but I wonder if some NHL teams are going to go on strike after what happened to NBA/MLB games and Hrudey's comments yesterday. Probably not enough black players in the NHL to make this happen, I would guess.

Evander Kane@evanderkane_9

We the @TheOfficialHDA
have formally requested the @NHL to suspend all playoff games today. We strongly feel this sends a clear message that human rights take priority over sports.

trying not to get mad,

however, if a one day suspension happens, the Canucks need to make sure they don't have to play an extra back to back game!!!!!
cause if they do, and do not win the Cup. Put a second asterisk on it.

Let us be reminded of who Evander Kane is:

“Tyler Myers is my guy... I was taking to Scotty Bowman last night and he was bringing up his name, and saying he’s a big guy and big guy need big minutes to play, he is playing great for ya… and I agree with him… He’s been exceptional” - Bruce Boudreau

Strangelove wrote: Wed Aug 26, 2020 8:51 pm Yes, they gave him bottled water BEFORE he shot anyone.

As your link said, they give out bottled water to all kinds of folk.
It was added for the audacity.
The kid was not just "walking around with an AR-15"

Rittenhouse was there legally protecting a gas station.

The rioters were there illegally... because well they were rioters.
At the beginning to "protect" a gas station, however his Facebook was promoting Blue Lives Matter.
And Rioters? or protesters.
Before he took his rifle to confront the unrest Tuesday in Kenosha, Wis., and was charged in a fatal shooting at the protests, Kyle Rittenhouse seemingly idolized one thing: the police.

Growing up in Chicago’s far northern suburbs, the 17-year-old shadowed local law enforcement as a cadet and filled his social media feeds with posts declaring that “Blue Lives Matter." There were videos from the front row of a Trump rally, and photos of himself posing with guns.

Rittenhouse attempted to join the Marine Corps in January, but was disqualified from serving after discussing his options with recruiters, said service spokeswoman Yvonne Carlock. She declined to specify why he was disqualified, citing the service’s privacy guidelines.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2 ... -protests/
No one knows why he shot the first guy.
Doesn’t that make him dangerous?
But given his actions we see in the videos that followed, he likely had good reason.
Likely had a good reason to murder someone in public? WOW
After shooting that first guy, he had to make his way to the police (a block away?).

Either that or more violence would surely follow (many rioters were also armed).
The protesters/rioters, were calling him out and pointing him out to the police and not shooting at him for him christs sake.

Murderous threats were uttered towards him and eventually he was taken down by the mob.
Notice nobody killed or shot him?

At that point it became a matter of self-defense (note he only shot those he had to... to escape the mob)
Notice he’s the one being charged for murder? And not nobody else, as he KILLED people?

By the way, that one rioter who was shot in the arm was carrying a handgun.
OMG really!?! A handgun versus a semi-automatic rifle?
The other two assaulted him and tried to grab his gun.
Yes as he was killing people!
You said "the cops keep their cool with him and arrest him without having to blast him 10+ times".

Are you inferring that cops never shoot white guys when trying to make arrests?
I’m inferring in THIS instance versus Jacob instance, it’s painfully obvious the disregard for life for people of colour in MOST instances. White people with guns for whatever reason tend to get arrested without getting shot down, while people of colour holding a phone or a knife or nothing at all tend to get shot down neutralized, shoot first ask questions later by the police.
And/or are you inferring cops always shoot black guys when making arrests?
Lol obviously not.
I hope not, because both takes are ridiculous... and I just know you aren't wishing Rittenhouse was shot by police.
What a reach there SL, are you just saying that to get a rise out of me?
SKYO wrote: Wed Aug 26, 2020 8:00 pm Meanwhile people of colour are getting blasted on with just having a knife or in this case Jacob Blake walking to his car with his kids in there to make sure they were ok.
It's interesting you say "getting blasted on with just having a knife"...
UMMMM. Anyone who resists arrest by pulling a knife SHOULD get shot by police.
And since you said "in this case" Blake was just walking to his car, I'm going to assume you haven't heard:
Multiple witnesses reported hearing the cops yell "PUT DOWN THE KNIFE! PUT DOWN THE KNIFE!!"
... just before he was shot.
See above.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

NBA may want to boycott all of the playoffs, MLB looks like they may just delay games for a few days.

If the NHL wants to do something and get a head of this they could just postpone all games for 2 days and start up again on Saturday.
