Sorry Mick....are you able to expand on this comment.
The coverage was awesome.. And just the fact it was in town. I hope China will be a good host and wipe all debts clean for all participating counties.

Why would they forgive debts for participating countries?

Has that Ever happened?

.... or you just adding to the #postcount ?

The Swedes should have a good team.
Good enough for silver

:mex:
Here's one suggestion by Aftonbladet:

Goalies:
Robin Lehner
Jacob Markström
(Linus Ullmark)

None of them as good as Lundquist at his peak, but competent NHL starters.

Defence:
Victor Hedman – Jonas Brodin
Oliver Ekman Larsson – John Klingberg
Mattias Ekholm – Erik Karlsson
(Hampus Lindholm, Rasmus Dahlin)

A question mark for Karlsson, who has been hampered by injuries the last few years, but was outstanding before that.
Likewise with Dahlin, who has yet to live up to the extremely hyped expectations.
Hedman at the helm feels solid. Two cups and five consecutive Norris nominations.
Other options would be Adam Larsson and/or Rasmus Andersson.

Forwards:
Filip Forsberg – Mika Zibanejad – Elias Pettersson
Gabriel Landeskog – Nicklas Bäckström – William Nylander
Elias Lindholm – William Karlsson – André Burakovsky
Viktor Arvidsson – Joel Eriksson Ek – Patric Hörnqvist
(Victor Olofsson, Mikael Backlund)

Pettersson has been moved to the wing to make room for more established centres.
Bäckström and Nylander played really well together when Sweden won the 2017 world championship, so it seems logical to have them reunited.
Eriksson Ek came in fourth in this years Selke vote.
Other options include Rakell, Silfverberg, Bratt, Fast, Sundqvist, etc...

Yeah, the Swedes will have a good team.

Top 4 teams:
Canada
USA
Sweden
Russia

Finland in 5th. Any of the top 4 teams could win it depending which goalie gets hot, and who gets team chemistry rolling first.

A little concerned about Canada’s lack of goaltending if Carey Price is not available. Jordan Binnington sucks. Marc Andre Fleury has been ventilated to start the year. Is Tristan Jarry the answer? Maybe Braden Holtby. We should have the best skaters by a decent margin, but goaltending could be a real issue. Darcy Kurmper?

Maybe Price is taking off so he'll be ready for the Olympics? :D

Mackenzie Blackwood as a 3rd stringer would be my darkhorse pick, playing pretty good for a shitty team.
24yrs, 6'4 225lbs.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

an equally as interesting question is what Canucks will make their respective Olympic teams? We know Halak has been asked for Slovakia. Hughes should be a lock for team USA. Boeser should get high consideration too. JT Miller? He will be the one with a lot of question marks. Myers? SO I predict:

USA: Hughes, Boeser, Miller, Demko (does Rathbone get a look)
Sweden: OEL, Pettersson, Hoglander
Russia: Does Podkolzin get a look
Belarussia: Are they playing? Klimovich should get the call
Finland: Nada
Latvia: Slivos

While Höglander is a shoe-in for the World Championship, it'll be harder for him to get an invite to the Olympics. :|

There are 40 Swedish forwards in the NHL, 23 of whom log more TOI than the Hog. 16 have a better PPG average and another four (including Petey) are tied with him. Last year he was 22nd in TOI and 19th in PPG, so it's roughly where he fits. Considering that the roster should have just 22 skaters, my guess is that there will be 14 forwards, so he needs to really step up in what little time is left to make the team, unless they fit him in as some kind of role player, but I don't really see him as that. There's some sandpaper, but not as much as Garland has, and I don't see him as an effective fighter.
Then again, he is probably the best Swedish player at scoring lacrosse goals in hockey, so he does have that going for him...
Anyway, he needs to convince the national team management that he is a better choice than roughly eight players that have better stats than him.
Not an easy task. But we'll see. He is fun to watch, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for him.

I have no doubt he will have a really good shot at making the team in 2026, but this time I think they will go with proven players instead.
Well, unless he scores a couple of hat tricks between now and Xmas. Wouldn't mind if he did. :drink:

Btw, shouldn't we merge this thread with the 2022 Winter Olympics - Beijing one? :|

Hoglander and Rathbone don’t have a chance. Neither does Myers. Podkolzin doesn’t have a hope. The guy who might get consideration is Conor Garland, though I can’t see three US forwards coming from Vancouver.

Thatcher Demko should get a call from the US. Hard to think any other Canuck will be representing their Country other then Pettersson and probably Hughes. Really long shots might be Horvat and Miller but that would probably only be in a 4th line center role. Doubt Boeser gets called.

And yet you thought Boeser could make a stronger Canada squad.

FTR I think all of Boeser, Miller and Garland have a decent shot to make the US team. I can’t see all of them making it but you never know. With Demko and Hughes also having a good shot to make the team that’s five guys.
