World Championship 2022

Re: World Championship 2022
So where are all the Canucks?
USA beat Sweden in overtime. Two goals (including gwg) by Gaudette and one by Schmidt.
But they don’t count anymore. So why did we give up on Gaudette? He looked good out there.
Nylander will join team Sweden, which is good as we lack genuine goal scorers in this squad.
The bad news is that this means Linus Karlsson is cut from the team. Would have been a good experience for him, but whatever.

Say what you will about Switzerland, but their flag is a big plus…
And they’re ahead 4-3 against Canada after two periods.

Re: World Championship 2022
Canada looked like they were being coached by Travis Green. Perimeter play, couldn't get anything dangerous looking to the net.
Switzerland deserved the win.
Switzerland deserved the win.
Re: World Championship 2022
With Nylander on the ice the Swedish powerplay looked better. Of course, it was Norway we faced, so hard to say what that means wehen we face a real team, but still. One goal, two assists in his first game in this tournament.

So Canada loses to Switzerland and then to Denmark.

Re: World Championship 2022
Keeping my fingers crossed you can muster the strength to beat France tomorrow.
You should have made sure the Oilers missed the playoffs so Canada could have had McJesus on the roster.

Re: World Championship 2022
...tbh, even when Canada competes/wins, I'm going to guess the give a fuck factor in the country with respect to the World's is muted at best.

Re: World Championship 2022
So, the Swiss won Group A, followed by Germany, Canada and Slovakia.
The Finns won group B, followed by Sweden, Czechia and the USA.
This gives us the following quarter finals:
Switzerland vs USA
Finland vs Slovakia
Germany vs the Czechs
Sweden vs Canada
They're all a bit unpredictable.
Switzerland have been good, winning all seven games in the roundrobin, including the one against Canada. The USA has not impressed, but I think they may have underachieved and could do better than they've shown so far. Very hesitantly leaning toward the Swiss. They did beat Canada after all.
Finland has a good team and should easily fend of Slovakia. This is the only game that I'm certain about.
The Czechs have also underperformed imho. Lost not only to Sweden and Finland but also to lowly Austria. Meanwhile, Germany has looked good, but in a weaker group. I give this to the Czechs.
Sweden vs Canada. Could go either way. Sweden has a good goalie in Ullmark and really good defence, but I think we lack firepower up front. Adding Nylander addressed that to some extent, but I'm not convinced we have what it takes. Then again, Canada has looked really weak so far, but experience tells me that they tend to find another gear once the elimination games start. Leaning toward Sweden, but as I said, this could go either way.

Sweden had 3-0 after two periods, but Canada turned it around in the third. One early goal, then two at the end with pulled goalie.
3=3 in regulation. Now overtime.
