No, he’s cheap labour. I don’t care where he’s from. Too many minions can’t think for themselves so they throw rocks at a guy because a miserable coal miner hates him. He’s a cheap bottom pairing D man. Yet he’s apparently the problem when there’s tens of millions being pissed away on cap manglement.Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 12:59 pm If Stecher was American and not from BC, Doyle would feel much differently about Stecher

Not a big surprise Troy isn’t qualified. He will land on his feet somewhere

They'll get back to him later and sign him cheap. No way they were pay him what the qualifier would be.

I understand not qualifying him as it means a higher cap hit. If they let him walk for 1.5 to 2 million to another team, that seems pretty silly.

They may yet sign Stech on Friday. who knows.
VanCanucks:
The Canucks have extended qualifying offers to seven players:
Justin Bailey
Guillaume Brisebois
Jalen Chatfield
Adam Gaudette
Jake Kielly
Tyler Motte
Jake Virtanen

Not a surprise and just another self inflicted wound like the upcoming Boeser qualifying offer, Eriksson's contract, the Toffoli uncertainty and potential loss after dealing some decent assets to acquire him, and Sutter's extension. There was no need to extend Stecher at $2.325 million after his $925k entry level deal and now this is what they get.
Benning should be thanking Pettersson and Hughes every single day because without them falling into his lap he'd be unemployed. Can hardly wait to see the ending to the OEL saga and not in a good way. Would be hilarious to see the market's reaction if they lose all of Markstrom, Toffoli, and Tanev, and the OEL deal falls apart.

I wanted Demko over Marky because he is the right age for the core. I always felt it would be one or the other. But I’m happy for Marky that he will get a big contract with term.
I thought Tanev was noticeably declining last season, and his injury proneness would make a long term deal a mistake. It’s time to move on from Tanman, but once again I’m happy for him that he had a good playoffs and will get big bucks and term with another team. But it will be their mistake.
OEL would have to be a steal of a deal for me to like it.
The only one I really wanted was Toffoli, but that door isn’t closed yet, and even if Benning misses we may be able to find a cheap option for the top nine after FA Frenzy.
It is not the worse thing if none of the UFAs are signed.

It's really not all that different, my comment at the end is around the market, the fans and media reaction and the entertainment value of everybody losing their shit if all that occurred. With Demko, this is why you draft blue chip goalies as early as they did and a team should be prepared to transition once that goalie develops and is read. The fact Markstrom is on the precipice of a near retirement contract, and the Canucks are in a cap crunch, just means they may need to do that earlier than they might have planned.Cherry Picker wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 2:35 pmMy take is different.Curmudgeon wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 2:20 pmNot a surprise and just another self inflicted wound like the upcoming Boeser qualifying offer, Eriksson's contract, the Toffoli uncertainty and potential loss after dealing some decent assets to acquire him, and Sutter's extension. Someone is going to pay Tanev on reputation and hope he might continue to be as durable as this past season when it's more likely he won't remain healthy and will continue to decline. The fact the Canuck are minimally prepared player wise to replace him, or even Stecher for that matter, on the right side reflects very poorly on the team. It also necessitated an overpay on Myers and stings further every time Rasmus Andersson lines up on the right side for the Flames. But, yeah, good for Tanev though.
The term and totality being a $58 million commitment they're taking off the Coyotes hands alone should make it a no-go and it will be a terrible deal if it's without at least Eriksson and one other cap dump like Sutter heading the other way and if it includes even one of Demko, a 1st, Hoglander, Podkolizn, and Rathbone. Benning better be turning the dollars screws hard here or back away. Saving Arizona well over $45 million in salary commitments while giving them considerable assets would be a very poor outcome.

OEL will thrive in a market where historically Swedes have thrived . Look no further than Lief Rohlin, Lars Molin, Per Olav Brasar, Bert Robertson, Anton Rodin. The list goes on. Let’s bring OEL home. I’m sure ole Wooly Socks Of the North has got my back on this

He pushes the play and moves the puck like an all star. His point presence will draw a ton of pressure off of Hughes on the PP as will his dishes to Pettersson for one timers.
If he joins this group he will seamlessly become our 2nd best dman for years and years and years

It’s the NMC that scares me the most.
Being burned by Louise is enough.. what if he waived to be here with his bestie, and they just decide to drink beer and cash cheque’s? Suppose his play drops off like Louises did?? You think Louise and his 6 mil is hard to move, imagine what it’ll be like to move an 8.5..

Yet the same posters who pile on the guy regularly are A ok with paying Jay Beagle and the other clowns their cap hits.

Besides, if yo7r gonna make room for 8.5, why the hell wouldn’t you make room for Petriangelo at 9-9.5?? It’ll be the same albatross in the end.
