Topper wrote: Tue May 18, 2021 12:37 pm I suspect part of the classes box d has to do with limiting one on ones that may need to be broken off to maintain responsibility. Sending his to directly pressure the puck can get someone a long way out of position. For the kids learning, the collapsed box keeps things simple.
That’s a valid point, and makes sense i just hope to god if Travis is back he starts tinkering with things to push possession up, obviously the top line is fine, but getting the bottom 6 able to hold the puck and transition better is gonna be a major key in future success. This is where guys like lockwood, lind, highmore, and hawryluk (motte as well) are going to be interesting to watch, these guys all got speed to burn and have shown the ability to carry the puck at speed. Through in hoglander or podkolzin playing bottom 6 and it could be very interesting. Just need a third line center.

Dreger:

With the speculation of changes within the Vancouver Canucks, I’m told Canucks ownership is involved in ongoing discussions with Henrik and Daniel Sedin about potential roles within the organization.
Henrik was on the radio a while back saying he wanted to get back in the game one day. Twins are certainly bright people, as are the Courtnalls.

The Twins could certainly coach many of the skills and tactical weaknesses this team has.

Agreed, great post Topper.
It isn't much different than the PM's we exchanged when the retool/ rebuild began. Track expiring veteran contacts against projected youth development.

Not sure what to expect for a timeline of announcements from the Canucks, but word tonight is Jim Benning was given indication in the last 24 hours that he is to return.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

If the owners can't see the drafting and development results (the life-line of a professional sports franchise operating under a cap financial system), then they are truly clueless in how to run a business.

The Aquas probably just saw Topper's post.

Even so, they need to look in the mirror at their own meddling and what that has done.

But... but Friedman is an idiot when the grease toads here hate his takes. They like this one though, so now he’s obviously gold. Never fucking change.

Either way things are shaking. Getting some fresh eyes on the freaks that have been ru(I)nning the team for the last seven years should be a top priority and it seems like it finally is. Hell they apparently reached out to Arthur Griffiths.

Elmo might survive but he may also have some actual smart people watching the way he conducts himself and the business. He needs someone to hold his hand and he needs someone to slap it when he thinks Beagle, Sutter, Schaller, Sven, Loui, Roussel, Holtby etc is a good idea.

Or hopefully he’s trimmed down to where he belongs- in scouting. Either way it appears he isn’t long for the GM gig.
