Re: AROUND THE LEAGUE - 25-26

So Jackson Blake’s deferred money saves Carolina $525,000 on their cap space. Frank Vatrano’s deferral saves the Ducks 1.43m a year. Seth Jarvis saves Carolina $480,000. Deferrals get eliminated in the next collective agreement, but the Canucks will be trying to re-sign Hughes before that kicks in. I ...

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26

IMO Mancini needs to cook a bit more in Abby to develop consistency and more physical play. Willander will be a top four before long, but should start in Abby. I expect if everyone stays healthy, it will be a process over the season to get the defence set with everyone in their correct place the ...

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26

Their grit is different. Karlsson is more the stinky mitt face rub, cheap stick between the nut sack from behind kind of infuriating player. Joshua is more the, “Why I oughta” and on the rare occasion he backs it up. But most of Joshua’s scoring success ran through Garland. Perhaps if Karlsson plays ...

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26

Basically, it will be Karlsson replacing Joshua. Karlsson plays naturally grittier than Joshua, but probably won’t fight. I don’t know if Karlsson can play as well as Joshua did two years ago, but I don’t know if Joshua can play as well as he did that season again either. They’ve spent most of their ...

The new crew have traded quite a few players within a year of signing or trading: Ilya Mikheyev Danton Heinen Anthony Beauvillier Sam Lafferty Vincent Desharnais Dakota Joshua Lazar Who am I missing? Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26

Evan Rodrigues could be worth a try but he is nothing special especially in the regular season. He has produced well in the last two playoff runs as Bennett’s winger - when Bennett heats up, but those point burst have more to do with Bennett at centre. I don’t think he is a 2C, but he might fill in j ...

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26

Lankinen doesn’t have the upside of Silovs or the downside. But considering the clubs need for cap space for a 2C, the Lankinen contract looks like a mistake. If Demko goes down with a long term injury, I don’t have any more faith that Lankinen would be able to lead them into the playoffs than Sil ...

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26

Or, more likely, it turns out management made a mistake. It may turn out that Demko won’t stay healthy, the Canucks miss the playoffs by a couple points and the kid is solid in Pittsburg. Even if Silovs never becomes a starter, the Canucks could have carried three goalies, held on to their current t ...

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26

For that return, I would’ve waited to see how Demko did.
Then again, I wouldn’t have signed Lankinen to the contract he got.
Oh well, Silovs is gone. He had a nice run in Abby.
Management made their bet on Demko’s health.
It’s on them if he can’t stay healthy and they miss the playoffs.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26

Agree, whatever his value is now, it will only go up as the season goes along. If the return is only a draft pick or prospect that won’t play next season, hold on to him and carry three goalies - at least until Demko has shown he can stay healthy for a while. They should trade him early if he is p ...

Re: AROUND THE LEAGUE - 25-26

Next year’s draft looks awesome. Having an off-season is going to pay off for some club, unless it’s Ottawa, poor bastards: “The Ottawa Senators are forced to forfeit their 2026 first round pick. This is due to a penalty imposed by the NHL for a "botched deal" involving forward Evgenii Dadonov. The p ...

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26

I think he improved a lot with long shots and his down low play is excellent. He’s still really young for a goalie. He’ll be a good one, but it will be somewhere else. I agree they should keep him around as a third goalie unless he is part of a package to bring in a roster player (2C). It sounds lik ...

Re: 2025 Canucks Off-season

Really hope Chytil rebounds this year, Raty is not close to a #2 C. They don’t have a number two. They are fitting someone on the second line from one of their number threes/fours (Raty, Chytil, Sasson, Mueller, Aman) and hoping for strong defensive play. Raty has played better defensively than C ...
