Dark Thoughts

8

I’m going to be watching tonight’s game with more than a little trepidation. The Canucks need a win and they should win, but the Leafs are overdue. I always figure that the longer this losing streak goes on, the more likely it is to end. I’d rather play a very hot team than a very cold one. Plus, the Leafs have to get a decent game from a goaltender sooner or later and the Canucks have been making goalies look good all year.

Losing to the Leafs is always awful, but losing to the Brian Burke Leafs will be particularly terrible. We oughta crush them – now that would be sweet – but I’ve got a really bad feeling…

Update: Whew.

Aren’t we lucky we kept any points from them Tom. :) Not a particularly great game by the Nucks, but it’s nice to win some ugly ones every now and then.

It looks like M. Luongo is starting to round into form, which is a nice thing for Canucks fans, and bad news for the rest of the league.

Michael Grabner is looking good, isn’t he? 5 points in 6 games, and getting his chances in general. Why did it take 3 years for the Canucks to give this guy his first regular season NHL game?

It took that long because Grabner wasn’t ready. You have to dominate at one level before you move up to the I think it is good that we are following the Detroit/New Jersey model, letting guys like Grabner, and now Hodgson, get some seasoning before we ask them to save the team.

yea but grabner never did dominate at the ahl level. he had a good run in the playoffs last year, but he’s never put up dominating numbers in the ahl. he’s looked fantastic with the canucks though. on the other hand, i love shirokov, but he looks like he cant stay on his skates.

I haven’t made up my mind on either Shirokov or Grabner. I’m always terribly slow to decide whether a guy can play. I sure like the speed on the Kesler line these days but they also seem to be giving up a lot of chances, too. Both Grabner and Shirokov have been less than stellar without the puck.

      • Roberto says:

Fair enough, but it’s not like Krog was dominating last year, either. At some point, you have to give guys a look, or they start wondering what they’re playing for.

        • Tom says:

No doubt. And Grabner appeared to be making the most of his opportunity. Shirokov must have a big hole in his game because he didn’t really get a shot with all the injuries.

Just when you thought the Canucks came out of the Leafs game happy (they got the win, despite the fact that the Leafs goaltending was decent), we found out that Luongo suffered a fracture rib in that game.
