Team 1040: Pettinger Signed
The Team1040 is reporting that Matt Pettinger, who was on a tryout contract with the Moose, has been signed by the Canucks and is en-route to Vancouver.
Yet another grinder, but one that has experience. Thoughts?

Re: Team 1040: Pettinger Signed
A temporary fix to a very dismal reality in terms of injury. I'm fine with it, but the guys left on the squad that can score need to really step it up. Last thing I need to see is a repeat of an O'Brien type coming out of the box with a breakaway and missing 5 ft wide..lolIsland Nucklehead wrote:The Team1040 is reporting that Matt Pettinger, who was on a tryout contract with the Moose, has been signed by the Canucks and is en-route to Vancouver.

Didn't that poo head already play with us a few years back?
In all seriousness, I actually don't mind the signing. Pettinger has good size and can fight, and is an NHL level caliber player. At this point - the Canucks just need anyone with a semblance of NHL ability to be on the ice!

He's worthless, but we need bodies at this point. Surely once the team gets some of its wounded back he'll be a distant memory, but we need someone who can take a shift for a while.

third line fill in at best.. but needed right now...
Nuck fan Since 1970 and still no Cup
Re: Team 1040: Pettinger Signed
It's better then bringing in a forward that hasn't played under our system,
Pettinger has played under AV.
Pettinger has played under AV.
This signature hates SOB as much as the guy who wrote this signature.
Re: Team 1040: Pettinger Signed
Its a fairly cheap, fairly safe move. If I remember correctly Pettinger wasn't a defensive liability at least so he can fill a spot without causing issue. I guess the debate is whether Shirokov couldn't have learned on the job so to speak with the Canucks a bit more. Seems its not a risk they are interested in and he wouldn't really have fit on the 4th line as I'm thinking Pettinger will see time on.
I do remember the first go around when we traded Cooke for him and he was fresh off a 20 goal campaign with Washington. We had some hopes for the guy but safe to say he's not going to turn into an offensive threat.

He's a better hockey player than Hordichuk, and has real NHL experience.
He refused a camp invite with New Jersey to sign for 25 games with the Moose and now that's paid off for him.
I would rather have another player with NHL experience than dress another un-proven rookie.
Pettinger knows his game (3-4 line), and that will help us avoid some rookie mistakes.
