Abby signed a very good veteran AHL forward this week in Kyle Rau.

I see he slotted in on the first line tonight. Much needed.

Abbotsford Canucks General Manager, Ryan Johnson, announced today that the club has signed forward Kyle Rau to a one-year contract for the 2022-23 season.

Rau, who turned 30 years-old yesterday, spent the majority of the 2021-22 season with the Minnesota Wild’s AHL affiliate Iowa, leading the team in goals (25), ranking tied for the team-lead in points (53) and ranking tied for second among Wild skaters in assists (28). He also skated in five NHL games for Minnesota in 2021-22.

The 5-9, 178-pound left winger has played in over 400 professional games between the NHL and AHL. Heading into his eighth professional campaign, he has skated in 362 regular season AHL games between San Antonio, Portland, Springfield and Iowa, recording 257 points (117 goals, 140 assists) and 158 penalty minutes. In 61 regular season NHL games, he has registered seven points (two goals, five assists) and 15 penalty minutes.

A native of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Rau is Iowa’s all-time franchise leading scorer, having recorded 199 points over four seasons with the club between 2017 and 2022. His 88 goals and 111 assists rank him second all-time in franchise history, while his 244 games played for the Wild rank fourth all-time.

Canucks jumped out to a commanding 4-0 in the first period and newcomer Rau had two of the goals.

Rematch with San Diego tonight. Lane Pederson making his debut with Abby. Fellow newcomer Kyle Rau had a pair of goals in his first game last night. Both should really help the forward group.

And Lane Pederson follows Kyle Rau's footsteps and opens the scoring for Abby.

Glenn Gawdin replies right away for the Gulls to even things up.

Great music at all the Abbotsford games, I think I would prefer attending Abby games to Vancouver games just as an entertainment experience.

Refs just waived off an apparent Abby goal for goalie interference. Kyle Rau made very slight contact there I guess...

That’s a veteran crew for Abby. Four prospects and 16 vets in the lineup. How are they not violating some rules with that lineup? Not that I’m that familiar with the rules.

Lockwood drives home a one timer past Dostal and it's 2-1 Abby with around 8 minutes left in the second.

I don't know either Blob. They must be young vets I guess.

The San Diego annnouncer (he was the old Utica Comets announcer) did mention the Canucks only have three draft choices in the lineup.

By the way, there's a girl referee in this game.

The Abby announcer now calls the linesmen 'linespeople now. I can't listen to that kind of wokeness.

Abby with a 24-8 shots edge with 3:33 left in the second period.

Rocco Grimaldi just tied the game for San Diego on a pp breakaway.

Shots are 35-19 midway through the third.

This is mostly a function of the Gulls taking loads of penalties tonight. Gulls are playing better tonight overall, Canucks not as well as last night.

And Danny O'Regan wins it for San Diego in the shootout.

That's 3-2 (ot) San Diego Gulls. Next up. Coachella Valley will be in town for a Fri-Sat doubleheader.
