These guys seem to all be on the same page, just focused and motivated to finally start consistently competing for the playoffs. You can see the resolve in the guys who've been here awhile during interviews, like Brock.

The starting goalie should be in the Vezina running. The backup? Huge question marks.

While the D corp, other than Hughes, does not look very impressive, remember not too long ago our 1A Dman was a greasy-haired, injury-proned Tanev? This forced an aging, mistake-prone 1B Edler to play top-pairing while babysitting a tiny dancer from Richmond. Doesn't look so bad now, does it?

JR & Baldy has some time and maybe a few regulars on the roster to do something about the backend this season, especially if new and younger pieces make older ones redundant.
It is a deep forward group, they've done a great job augmenting what they inherited, turning over a third of the starting twelve. I expect all of Kuzmenko, Mikheyev, Lazar, and Joshua to make a solid impact in their own way.

Lol, D corp also doesn't look as bad as when we were hoping a Hutton-Gudbranson pairing was going to be key to the future, or that former 1st rounders like Sbisa and Pouliot would emerge and be part of the answer with a change of scenery, or that Del Zotto at 2 x $3 million would provide some veteran stability along with recently signed UFA forward Sam Gagner. Holy smokes, experiencing some PTSD just writing that out.

I have faith they'll swing something relatively soon, I think highly of Rathbone and like the bottom lineup and Abby depth with guys like Schenn, Burroughs, Keeper, and Juulsen, but a top 4 RHD is the difference between making the playoffs and making serious noise.

Will Bruce, unlike the Trevasty that preceded him, make early cuts and get down to a starting roster early instead of the last day?
Just to add to what HW posted, Dhaliwal was kind of speculating yesterday that maybe they're starting Pearson with Miller and Boeser and playing Dickinson down the middle to showcase those two guys.

Also, judging by the initial reports this morning, Hoglander's not going quietly, if Abby was the plan for him.

History don't lie. Holy shit, that was a dark era.

That's kind of how I see it too. It all rides on the 3 Russians. If they establish themselves then we got assets to play with for D improvement.

I never saw Pearson finishing this current contract here. Certainly, you don't re-sign him after this one. His game is still valuable, so maybe you keep him especially if they lock up a spot early.

Unless Dick becomes Lazar(us) and returns to Dallas form this season, you have to find a way to dump him. Hopefully, Smiley Lazer is an actual upgrade on the 4th line.

Hogs isn't going to fetch you much. He'd only be a throw-in on any deal, so no hurry to move him. Let's see how he responds.

The biggest asset then becomes Garland. Love his game, but the way he plays, produces and his contract make him valuable. Does he get made redundant in a scoring role?

So many interesting scenarios going into the season. Drop da puck already!

Yeah JR moved pearson for gudbranson, he'll probably do something similar again.

Hogz gettin' some love from Coach Bruce.
Brendan Batchelor:

Bruce Boudreau on Nils Höglander: He’s the best player on the ice right now.

He looks so much faster than he did last year.

He’s definitely ready, and I think last year was a setback for him, and he doesn’t want it to happen again.

Assitant Coach MIke Yeo Mic'd Up

Coach B prob didn't have a say, but he must be watching over his shoulder with Mike Yeo and Jeremy Colton in the organization (2 guys with quite a bit of NHL coaching experience). If anything goes sideways, the Chipmunk has some options to tap on the shoulder.

Similar? OK.

Just don’t do the same thing again. LOL.

Wuh oh...

Thomas Drance
@ThomasDrance
Brock Boeser has been with Group A throughout #Canucks training camp, but isn’t taking part in the final scrimmage.

Told the club made the decision to hold him out of the scrimmage for precautionary reasons.

Hockey Widow wrote: Thu Sep 22, 2022 12:48 pm Tanner Pearson – J.T. Miller – Brock Boeser
Andrei Kuzmenko – Elias Pettersson – Ilya Mikheyev
Conor Garland – Bo Horvat – Vasily Podkolzin
Dakota Joshua – Jason Dickinson – Curtis Lazar
Nils Höglander – Nils Aman – Linus Karlsson

Oliver Ekman-Larsson – Quinn Hughes
Danny DeKeyser – Tyler Myers
Jack Rathbone – Luke Schenn
Travis Dermott – Tucker Poolman

Bruce has said he wanted to start with the combinations being as close to season opening as he could. So we know there will be some changes but perhaps not too many?

- How long will Dickinson last? Yes he has the worst f/o % of the three but things can shuffle for taking draws right?
- Where does Lockwood fit? Doesn't seem that he does
-Not surprised on the Hoglander thing. Bruce was not high on him and whenever Allvin has been asked he doesn't really say much. For whatever reasons he is in the outhouse. That is why I advocate trading him while still may have value.
-If JT can still bet 100 points with Pearson on his wing then just wow. Pearson will get a chance really earn his keep. I like Pearson just didn't see him as a fit much longer bit this line could change that for him. But will his wingers be able to skate with JT?
-Bo finally getting a chance to have some O on his wings. Better get that contract done now!!
-Interesting with Pettersson getting two Russians.
-The Pods is getting a shot to really break out with those other two. Good!

On D

-Were is Burroughs?
-Where is Keeper?
-Is DeKeyser just front in centre because he is on a PTO and they want good look at him?
-Unless we move Hughes back to the left boy are we light on the left side now. Maybe that's why there is room for DeKeyser.
Great thoughts as always.

DeKeyser caddied for Seider last year. If he can settle things down and let Myers freelance then it’s like getting two players - Myers is an adventure defending but going up ice is something he does surprisingly well.

Drance said that QH actually prefers to be on the right. But can OEL handle the minutes?

Seems imperative to me to have size that can play. Joshua seems legit. Might get Zack Mac back on waivers?

Dickenson in the middle makes more sense than on wing. He doesn’t hit but Joshua and Lazar will. Dickenson will lose a lot of draws but hopefully can intelligently read and engage and make good passes to his wingers.

Having Horvat makes this forward group pretty deep and good, but will he sign? And if he signs will he be in a good frame of mind? Moving him would be a shock but if the new group wanted to define their era with “non emotional” moves, what better signal that this is the new Canucks?

That’s right, he did!

Crazy thought, could Rathbone work with QH? Two small guys but Rathbone had Fox in university, no physical element but the puck was not much in their end regardless

Watching some of the Day 3 scrimmage highlights... JT looks to be serious about competing all 200ft. Came back on the backcheck and put an elbow right into a trolley-track crossing Petey. This close to being an illegal blow to the head. Calm down JT, save it for the opponents.

Cuz Semenko is going to snipe. Mark my words. He'll get a new contract before this season ends.
