Bailey sets up Stevens on the rush for the 2-0 lead after ringing it off the post moments earlier.

Hey Megs, how's the Japanese kid?
Never would've imagine one day there would be two Asians on the same pro hockey team.

Why... because when they go into the corners they open a store?Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 7:21 pm Hey Megs, how's the Japanese kid?

Yeah, that was a good joke we used to tell back before the 90s.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 8:10 pmWhy... because when they go into the corners they open a store?Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 7:21 pm Hey Megs, how's the Japanese kid?

Why aren't Chinese good at hockey? Because every time they get into the corners, they open up a grocery store. Ba da boom.
Unfortunately, those days of Chinese corner stores where we kids would blow all our allowance on junk are only a part of the city's history. There aren't even that many 7-11s around anymore that replaced these family run stores.
The Abby Canucks currently have Woo and a Japanese walk-on. This is extremely rare, two Asians on a pro hockey team. Hopefully, this won't be the case for much longer. The Olympics will generate a lot more interest and we'll be seeing more of these Asian kids being drafted in the next 5-10 years. You're already seeing more North American kids of mixed Asian heritage in the NHL now.

There's also the Thai kid Alex Kannok-Liepert. He's a rookie pro out of the Vancouver Giants who has shown well this year.Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 9:46 pmYeah, that was a good joke we used to tell back before the 90s.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 8:10 pmWhy... because when they go into the corners they open a store?Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 7:21 pm Hey Megs, how's the Japanese kid?

Looks like it was a 5-1 final score for Abby last night. I guess sort of faded after the first period there.
Tonight's rematch is a free preview on AHLtv for anyone who wants to see it. https://www.watchtheahl.com/#/

But what I meant was, we're seeing more North Americans of Asian descent in pro hockey now, but it's still rare to have a couple of them on a team.
Soon you will also see them from Asia, born and raised and developed in their own minor hockey systems, make it over here for junior and getting drafted too.

He's doing okay so far, doesn't really look like AHL material to me though. He's pretty standard for an ECHL try out but notable like you say for being Japanese born and trained.Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 7:21 pm Hey Megs, how's the Japanese kid?
