Sportsnet; Canadiens acquire Eric Staal from Sabres for pair of draft picks
The Montreal Canadiens have acquired veteran centre Eric Staal from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a third-round pick and a fifth-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.

Staal, 36, has three goals and 10 points in 32 games this year with the last-place Sabres. Buffalo has lost 16 consecutive games, the longest streak of the shootout era (i.e. since 2005-06).

Sportsnet's Chris Johnston noted that Staal is "believed" to be subjected only to Canada's reduced seven-day quarantine period, though there hasn't been confirmation from the government on that yet.

This year, Staal carries a $3.25 million cap hit. He'll be an unrestricted free agent at season's end.

Think the Oilers were about to sign Dylan Holloway, Cole Caulfield's team mate, but he's got a broken thumb, so they might wait.

I’ll tell you what Ty Smith is looking great in Joisey.

Dahlin is a bum, just like Lafrenierre and Byfield
Quinton Byfield is up to 16 points in 21 games in the AHL. Very good numbers for a kid who is 18 years old.

Stutzle who is 7 months older than Byfield is playing in the NHL and has 6 goals and 13 assists

Byfield has 6 goals in the AHL
Stutzle has 6 goals in the NHL

What’s wrong with Nathan McKinnon this year? His game is nowhere near where it was last year? Is he going all Dany Heatly on us?

9 points in his last 7 games for Quinton. Kid is picking it up. Although some folks seem to have massive issues with an 18 year old mostly due to his birth country or the fact their own lives are miserable. Nice to see some improvement! Good Canadian kid!

There could be a scenario one day where our starting 6 D-men one day could be 4 Americans - Hughes, Schmidt, Myers and Rathbone, a Russian - Tryamkin, a Finn - Juolevi.

No Canadians. I guess Jett Woo is our only hope for Canadian representation

Absolutely nothing. Look at his team, he’s the leader.

I know team sports aren’t your thing.

Is Samuel Girard a better player than Cale Makar?

Girard - 5 goals 21 assists
Makar - 3 goals 16 assists

Apparently being on pace for 101 points in a full 82 game season is underachieving......

Makar has played ten fewer games. Or does this matter?
