Travis Hamonic on the ice with the Canucks for the first time this morning wearing Sergio Momesso's old #27.
Practice looking like a very NHL group, with Rathbone, Chatfield and Michaelis among those depth bodies taking a spin with the mainstays.

Monday Canucks Lines at practice:

Miller-Pettersson-Boeser
Pearson-Horvat-Hoglander
Roussel-Gaudette-Virtanen
Motte-Beagle-Sutter
Extras: MacEwen, Michaelis

Edler-Schmidt
Hughes-Hamonic
Juolevi-Myers
Extras: Rathbone-Chatfield

Holtby
Demko
11:04 AM ...Starting to look pretty set.

Based on what? Even if some of those guys are on the taxi squad, they are lacking a goalie.

Michael DiPietro will be the 3rd Goalie. It said in the beginning teams are required to carry three.

Kiddies are waiver exempt so they can go down to the ts without clearing.

The following players have been designated for assignment as of 9am PT today. They will be assigned in 24 hours following confirmation they have cleared waivers.

Justin Bailey, Right Wing
Sven Baertschi, Left Wing
Guillaume Brisebois, Defenceman
Loui Eriksson, Left Wing,
Tyler Graovac, Left Wing
Ashton Sautner, Defenceman

9 AM Jan.11. 2021.
Eriksson right off the bat to waivers! wow - frees up a million when he's in Utica and a roster spot....or is it just to the taxi squad?

Satiar:
Canucks finally take the step and place Eriksson on waivers, now they have to decide if they want Loui on the taxi squad for short term insurance or if they’ll make the long term play and bury him in the AHL
Hope to see Loui mentoring the kids down in Utica all season. :D

So Mikey's not going to play this year?

That right there is genius goaltender development on the part of Jimbo. Pure genius.

Is that what he'd do to them?
Bo Horvat on Loui Eriksson: It's tough. We've played some good hockey together. He wants to win. He wants to compete. He wants to be here. Unfortunately, it's a business.

Well, the Canucks have never gone a season without the #3 goalie getting some starts. It can be anywhere from 2 starts to 10.

In a compressed schedule, I'd say it's more likely that a goalie needs a day off, getting Dipietro onto the bench. I'd also think its likely that a goalie needs a couple "maintenance days" that overlap one of the many, many back-to-backs, and Dipietro gets into a game or two.

I'm a little more bullish than others about the impact of the COVID travel schedule on injuries - I think it'll actually benefit the Canucks to be logging fewer miles, 1/4 the usual number of travel days and time zone changes. When Gillis had the sleep doctors, one of the keys was he could point to specific dates in the schedule and based on the travel around that day, predict an adverse performance by the team due to fatigue. This lead to lobbying the league to improve the travel schedule, but also to some major changes in team operations - specifically, when they fly out vs stay the night.

If I'm right, there will be less injuries, due to less travelling. If I'm wrong, then there's a far better chance that Mikey gets an extended look at some point!

He probably sticks til their season starts then heads south (east) when and if...might as well glean as much Ian Clarke time as he can

Given recent events, there's a chance Calgary might pick him up.
