Closed the border today. Both against the UK and Denmark.

It’s a bit complicated, because the Swedish constitution only allows the government to declare a state of emergency in times of war. Thus things like this have to go through parliament, which means even though the government declared their intent to close the border, they could not get it done till the next day.

They are suggesting a change in the constitution, but that takes a two thirds majority in parliament twice, with a general election held between the two votes, so we just have to live with it for now. Parliament will vote on a set of special pandemic laws next year though, that will grant the government a bit more power to make quick decisions, but yeah... The next general election is on 2022 and only some time after that can we complete the changes to the constitution. Well, granted that parliament passes the reform suggestions both times with the necessary majority.

I mean, a lot of Americans think of Sweden as some sort of big government socialist place, but we’re pretty libertarian in many ways. The government is not all that powerful. Parliament has more power, but they also cannot override the municipalities that have a rather strong right of self governance. And healthcare is run by the counties, not the government. A lot of legislation that is being pushed through in centralist countries like France would be unconstitutional here.

Hearing a few families in the interior pulled their relatives out of long term care homes for the holidays and travelled with them to visit family on the coast for Christmas. Now the care homes are trying to figure out what to when the residents return. Do they isolate them from the other residents and how?

Quite a few families I know are keeping their kids out of school for the first week so as to have a 14 day break since Xmas.

We'll be doing that too, for the same reason but also to go skiing when the mountains are less busy

Also interesting is I heard from a Chinese friend that China now requires a 3- week quarantine for arriving travellers. Is there something they know we don't?

Dr. Fauci Admits He Has Treated The American People Like Children

The American people need public officials to tell us the truth, not what they think we need to hear. That's the exact opposite of what we're getting.


In an interview last week with The New York Times, Dr. Anthony Fauci admitted something that many of us have suspected for some time: The media-anointed, all-knowing guru of COVID has been fudging the truth in order to encourage what he views as better behavior from the American people. Put simply, Fauci has been acting less like a public official and more like a parent keeping certain truths from his children.

This is a problem. Fauci is clearly admitting that he was not simply telling the American people what he believed to be true, he was instead trying to manipulate us into behaving how he wants. And it’s not the first time. Back in March, Fauci told Americans not to wear masks. He now claims he did so largely because he feared a shortage. So, once again, instead of just giving us the unvarnished scientific truth, as he understood it, he told us only what he thought it was good for us to know.

Sen. Marco Rubio was quick to point out how obvious it has become that Fauci has been operating more as a public relations flack than a scientist for some time now, tweeting:

"Dr. Fauci lied about masks in March ... Dr. Fauci has been distorting the level of vaccination needed for herd immunity
It isn’t just him... Many in elite bubbles believe the American public doesn’t know 'what’s good for them' so they need to be tricked into 'doing the right thing'."

The bottom line is that we are not being told the truth by our public officials or the media; they are trying to manipulate us, not inform us. How a society chooses to deal with and respond to a pandemic that lasts months on end is inherently a political choice. It is not a matter for experts to simply decide and then lie about the science to compel adherence to their plan.

Enough is enough. The American people are not children to be guided with half-truths to the decisions that their betters deem best for them.

If you have the sense that you are not getting the whole story, and that you have not been getting the whole story for some time now, it is because you aren’t. It was only under pressure from Republican elected officials that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo released the contact tracing data that showed restaurants only caused 1.4 percent of the virus spread in his state. Even so, he closed the restaurants anyway, because this isn’t about science, it’s about power.

And then you have people saying: "But Dr. Fauci said! YOU THINK YOU'RE SMARTER THAN DR FAUCI?!!"

To be honest, yes, yes I do.

But the point is Dr. Fauci constantly contradicts himself and admittedly lies about "scientific facts".

So yeah, smarter or not, you're better off believing yours truly than Dr. Fauci...
