Gary Bettman and Bill Daly press conference just concluded. 1pm--1:45pm Sat. Sept. 19 / 2020..

-no set time for next season but will be 82 games.

-Have had ongoing discussions with the other major leagues throughout the crisis.

-Gave full marks to Canada. Were instrumental making the playoffs work.

-No set plan in place for spectators in buildings when play does return. Could be none, could be all or anything in between.

-Seattle franchise will not be delayed in any way.

-Islander will be healthy with the completion of their state od the art new building, (not worried).

-No plans for any further "bubble" situational play.

-Acknowledges attendance is at least 50% of revenue, so there will be a hit.

-Bitches about how little sleep he's had, numerous times.......
Gary Bettman says the NHL has administered more than 30,000 COVID-19 tests with teams inside the bubble, and still hasn't had a positive result.

Barring any last minute changes, here is an overview of the upcoming important NHL Off-season dates.

All dates are based on the 'Critical Dates' calendar found in the MOU, and take into account the newly released schedule for the SCF which can end no later than September 30th.

Darren Dreger@DarrenDreger
Don Fehr and Gary Bettman will speak again today. The NHL has asked for an additional 16% deferred salaries and adjustments to escrow limits in the last three years of the CBA. Both sides are committed to playing, but this is a big ask and will require much more negotiating.

-Only play in own divisions.

Gary Bettman says NHL not trying to back out of CBA
ByEMILY KAPLAN, "ESPN"
2 December 2020, 15:29
• 4 min read --LINK
cherry picked a few excerpts
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman pushed back on the idea that owners have asked players to renegotiate the CBA that was signed five months ago, saying it is "unfortunate and inaccurate" how conversations with the NHL Players' Association have been portrayed in the media.
"We've been absolutely unequivocal with the players that we are not trying to renegotiate."
Some NHLPA members, however, told ESPN last month that they were "blindsided" when owners asked them to consider new financial structures, including deferred compensation and changes to the escrow cap.
Bettman said the projected Jan. 1 start date is still "a work in progress" that will be "influenced largely by medical experts."

"COVID is going through a second wave, which could be worse than the first wave," Bettman said. "Between Thanksgiving and the aftermath and what [experts] think are going to happen at Christmas and the aftermath, we are taking our time and making sure that as we look for ways to move forward, we are focused on health and safety and doing the right thing."

Bettman said training camps will not be significantly truncated, and he expects that teams will request to play at least one or two exhibition games before the season begins. Bettman also said the Canadian border remains an issue, and an all-Canadian division -- in which the seven Canadian teams play only one another -- remains a strong possibility.
"The fact is, if I'm a player and I'm looking at a [salary] cap that's going to be basically flat for the term of what is now a six-year collective bargaining agreement and players for the next five or six years are going to be repaying what was overpaid, they have to ask themselves: Does this make sense?"
Good will, peace and happiness to all but when it comes down to it, ya'll need to put a product out there for the fans, (your source of income),
Not expecting January !st but Feb 1st should be realistic. This is no time for an all out war between ownership and players. Concessions will
have to made by all or there is no tomorrow as we know and love it.

I think now is a great time for a player - owner battle. If it is a Don Fehr / Gary Bettman battle royale fight to the death on pay-per-view, we might just be able to eliminate escrow this year. Joe Rogan can emcee the event. Bo Horvat vs the entire Aquaman family would likely be a pretty good match. Shanny can start fighting for the players, then switch to the owners side, and then back to the players side, like a good WWF story.

Or, they can hammer out a solution quietly in a New York law office. But, I like the idea of a real blood sport, with some WWF entertainment on the side. I'll skip over the Mike Tyson biting the ears off of Don Koharski plot line.
The Cup is soooooo ours!!!!!!!

*update* from LeBrun:
As per NHL and NHLPA talks last night, 52-game and 56-game both on the table but sources say both the league and NHLPA would prefer 56 games if time allows.

Remember that they want to end Cup final in early July.

Again, nothing is done yet. Economic issues remain.

Just based on the tone from Donald Fehr and some of the comments I've seen floating around from certain players it's looking increasingly to me like there won't be a season. The players quotes I have read seem to imply a complete divorce from reality on their part. They can all sit for five years the way I'm feeling right now and in the event that the season is cancelled I expect the court of public opinion will judge them harshly.
