Let’s say the agents get close to what they want from Benning.
Which of these contracts would be the worst for Benning to sign?

I'd say Toffoli. Hes a declining asset at the least important position

Only the Tanev deal is palatable, mostly because RHD is positionally very lean, and the Canucks would probably sign that in a heartbeat. Don't like the 5 year term for Toffoli, the last couple could be rough, but Markstrom is the worst of the three.
The cap is expected to remain flat at $81.5 million until hockey revenues surpass $3.3 billion in the previous season and won't increase beyond another million until it hits $4.8 billion unless both parties agree to it. Impossible to hit those numbers with no or limited fans in the seats and there won't be full arenas unless there's a vaccine. Markstrom will turn 31 early in the tentative upcoming season and Toffoli 29 not long after so starting 5 year deals for either player under those circumstances would not be prudent.

The only way a Markstrom deal makes sense is if he has no expansion protection. Benning needs the flexibility come expansion draft time.

That Tanev contract is a sweet deal for the team. I had trouble deciding between the Toffoli and Markstrom deals bt ultimately went with the Toffoli contract for it's Erikssonesque possibilities.
That Markstrom deal would be no easy ride either though but I do think it would be movable. The Toffoli deal is an anchor.

No longer than 4 years for any of them. Tanev should probably be only three years at most. I mean we can’t be handing out “retirement style“ contracts to everybody.
