Benning could be just waiting for the Seattle Karen’s to pick a player off the roster.

He signs Taney, Stetcher (if he wants), Jake and Markey to 1 year deals this year.

Protects everyone we want to protect.

Then let Seattle pick a contract of Sutter, Erickssoonn, Beagle, etc..

Spooner, Beartschi and the the player lost in expansion clear the books enough that we are fine.

And if we trade another contract (off the undesirable list) then we actually have cap space, especially after Luongo comes off the books.

Lots of Panties being twisted over nuthin

Toffoli looks laboured out there right now. He wasn’t a good skater to begin with but now he looks slooooow. If that injury is a high ankle sprain it might be smarter to let him walk. Chris Higgins was never the same after he had that high ankle sprain when he was about 30. There’s been a few other guys who’ve had that injury and didn’t really bounce back.

Then again if it’s just a regular sprain down towards the foot, those seem to heel a lot quicker.

Sign Toffoli
Sign Tanev
Sign Markstrom
Sign Virtanen - he will be cheap

Trade Boeser
Trade Stecher
Trade Demko

After 2020-21 season say bye bye to the contracts of

Sutter
Pearson
Edler

After 2121-22 season say bye bye to

Eriksson
Beagle
Roussel
DOYLE WOULD’VE RATHER HAD KEVIN HAYES AT 7 YEARS 7 MILLION PER INSTEAD OF J.T. MILLER FOR A LATE 1ST RD PICK

Apparently Elliotte Friedman on SN650 says Markstrom wants $6,000,000+ AAV.

I'd say no thanks to that, sign another veteran for 2 years on the cheap.

Virtanen isn't doing himself any favours these playoffs, on the other hand the team could sign him cheap for 3 or 4 years, hopes he turns it around and trade him off in the future.
A long time ago, a baseball player remarked: "If I owned a ballclub, I'd hire a $5,000 coach and a $15,000 scout."

What's wrong with six million for Markstrom? IMO, it's the term that could be an issue. Three years >> 8-) , Six years >>

Wont get what you want for Virtanen. If his rep has fallen here, it has everywhere. One year show me deal.

Toffoli too streaky and aging, Boeser needs a better fitness coach that can find a path back to what he was not long ago. He's still the better option at his younger age.

Whether Tanev is extended or not, at least two regular blueliners must be added next year. From our system or thru a deal, (not a pick or picks)...

1 year for $6M sure, anything more is uncivilized due to Seattle expansion.

I just don't know when Virtanen's UFA hits, too lazy to check, which is why I'd get him locked up for like $1.75M per for 3 years, he scores 20+ goals in a season, his value goes way from there, thinking Blake Coleman styles - 3 year $1.8M aav.

Canucks will have an additional $2M added on to their overage if Petey wins the Conn Smythe OR is named to the 1st or 2nd all-star team.

Image

Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins lead the way in overages:
The Dallas Stars will carry over a league-high overage of at least $2.95 million, while the Boston Bruins will pay out $1.93 million in bonuses.

Vancouver’s carry-over charge is third most at $1.7 million, split evenly between Pettersson and Hughes at $850,000 apiece.
But if somehow the Canucks pull a 2019 Sharks on the Knights...
That figure could still increase by $2 million to $3.7 million if the Canucks somehow dig out of their 3-1 series hole to the Vegas Golden Knights and Pettersson goes on to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP – a bonus cheque the Canucks would be more than happy to write.

Tyler Motte has exhibited grit and smarts in these ongoing post season outings. At 25. worth re-signing.

Injury or not, Toffoli does not fit the mold of what the Canucks are building. Not that every player needs to fit the mold, but when you have too many, you lose the identity.

That said, it is nice to have a player who knows how to find soft spots and has a quick release.

Even a not 100% Toffoli he is playing better than Boeser, Virtanen and Eriksson on RW.

Gotta think long term. With the flat cap, how can it make sense to give a large UFA contract to 28 yr old Toffoli.
His track record is streaky. Not saying Brock Boeser has been lighting it up, just think he'll figure it out and has the time.
One thing for sure. This team can ill afford to have too many late twenties and early thirties players locked long term.

Brock is set to force Benning to pay 7 million next contract (in two years) or let him walk as a UFA. That kind of money may be awfully close to what Pietrangelo will command. Is Brock going to earn that kind of contract, or is it better moving him for other assets? He’s currently paid more than Horvat and Miller. Is he earning it? Needs to start beIng a hero tonight!
