R1 - Canucks vs blues - 2020 playoffs
Let's get it over with and beat the champs. It won't be easy, but we can do it.

Re: R1 - Canucks vs blues - 2020 playoffs
LINKSt. Louis rolls out four very effective, physically punishing and capable shutdown lines, similar to the 2010-11 Boston Bruins and the 2011-12 Los Angeles Kings who overwhelmed the Canucks in the postseason.
There is also a remarkable amount of scoring depth across this lineup. 11 players had double-digit goals, and five players hit 50-plus points. Reigning Conn Smythe and Selke Trophy winner Ryan O’Reilly (61 points) is a proven postseason performer who can take over any game. He would especially cause a lot of problems for Vancouver’s young stars.
Next: Canucks: Expert predictions against the Wild
So when you add it all up, it’s very clear that the Blues would be a much tougher matchup than the Stars or the Golden Knights. If the Canucks get past the Wild in the qualifying round, they can only cross their fingers and hope to avoid a series with the defending champions.

Hard to believe we've only met them once before in the playoffs.

1995 Stanley Cup quarter finals.
after defeating the Blues in seven, we took a big chunky dump vs the Hawks-- 0-4

Bring it on.... will be better than playing Dallas. They suck the life right out of the game.

There are no easy roads to the stanley cup and IF this team need a lesson in toughness and Benning has to recalibrate, it's a decent time to test themselves.
And should they win it's a great endorsement of the team. They can beat big bullies (Blues) and boring (Wild).

It's going to be a good test. Quite the step up from the Wild.
Damn, it would be nice to have a Ferkland for this series.

Re: R1 - Canucks vs blues - 2020 playoffs
We've met them thrice.
2009 where we swept them in 4.
2003 where we took game 7 (Chris Osgood was on his head, and Pronger was a beast).
1995 again went 7 games.
So we've never lost a playoff series against St. Loo.....here's hoping this team of young upstarts can keep the trend alive.
A key will be getting into Binnington's head. His numbers this year weren't as good as his rookie season, and if Petey can light him up a couple times early and often.....well he was pissed at losing the calder to Petey, felt he was more deserving.

I hope so. Jake is effective when he does that and gets people to go after him. I was happy to see him drop the gloves early to give the team some energy.Mëds wrote: ↑Sun Aug 09, 2020 6:08 pmTime for Jake to step up.Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Sun Aug 09, 2020 5:48 pm It's going to be a good test. The thing with Ferland is, he instigates AND he causes damage when he does it. Roussel is game but he just bounces off guys and takes more undisciplined penalties when he tries to stir shit up. The other team isn't intimidated by that nonsense. Not even skilled guys are scared.
Jake and MacEwan have to contribute physically. They're not going to be depended on for offence. If you don't offer any resistance, your top players are just sitting ducks.
2011: Not a single deterrent and turning the other cheek. Team destroyed physically and mentally.
1994: A whole team of tough guys that didn't take shit. One goal post from what could have been.

Ah yes...of course this will be the unravelling of Binnington. Hes already whinged, whined and wailed avout how he wasnt significant enough.
The way to knock off the champs is to get into the fragile eggshell mind of their egotistical goalie, then hope boobie loses confidence and slides their horrible backup in there for the death knell

Thing about Roussel though is, he lets the other bench know:
"You go after our stars, we'll go after yours"
And then he follows through on the threat.

MacEwen is hungry to be that guy and it looks like Virtanen wanted to show last game he's up for some of that too. I hope Myers keeps his edge. Some of those penalties were because of his height, if he was 6'1" they would have been fine, and other times he legitimately nailed someone and I'm all good with that, especially now that they've won the series. lolCarl Yagro wrote: ↑Sun Aug 09, 2020 5:48 pm It's going to be a good test. Wasn't Binnington self-campaigning for the ROY?
Hope Petey tells him who won the Calder.
Roussel is no Sean Connery.

Then ending up in the box by himself.Strangelove wrote: ↑Sun Aug 09, 2020 6:49 pm Thing about Roussel though is, he let's the other bench know:
