Having said that, FWIW I've heard a rumour that Loui has been considering retirement...

I hope you're right - but I'll believe it when I see. If Loui can coast somewhere else for a few million over the next few years, he should. It's his last chance at a decent check.

Was Madden even gonna sign here? The kid needs to stew that 150 lb body of his in college for awhile. The Maddens are east coast Americans
I predict we are signing all 3 of Tanev, Toffoli and Markstrom. Book it!!
Bye Stecher
Bye Sutter
After next year
Bye Edler
Bye Benn

Re: Canucks add Toffoli (Schaller, Madden, 2nd, cond 4th)
I liked Tyler Madden. Tyler has great bloodlines as his old man (John) was a Selke forward. Tyler seems to have that aspect of his game, but sounds like he plays like a pest and has some offensive flair as well. We compared him to B.Marchand here on a different thread. The American hockey system is turning out some great young players and Tyler is looking like one of them. Sure, he's thin as a stick right now, but he's listed @ 5'11, so I'm sure he'll fill out in a few years.
As for Toffoli, I was quite happy going with MacEwen and Bailey until guys like Brockstar and Leivo are back, but it sounds like Brock will be out longer than expected, so we can see why JB got desperate to do this trade. Odds are that Toffoli will walk in the offseason, so giving up Madden + 2nd for him does seem like a high price. If we were going to get a forward, I thought we needed an elite sniper or a big bruiser type, Toffoli is neither. Toffoli does have some skill though, so if we're going to win in the playoffs, we're going to win by balanced scoring, so he will help in that sense.
I'm curious what W.Simmonds goes for. If Simmonds goes for a 3rd rounder straight up, I think I'd rather do that and keep the T.Madden asset. Simmond's goal productions is quite a bit lower right now, but Simmonds has more grit, plays a heavier game and maybe more foot speed. I thought we needed a RS D-man more than anything, but we might have that in the system already in the one-eyed B.Rafferty.

The chances someone that tiny can make a meaningful impact for an NHL team are extremely thinChef Boi RD wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2020 7:13 pm Hey Bersnoozi, 8 words:

Yeah I'd say it's more like two years before they have to perform some surgery to make room for the essential Pettersson and Hughes signings. So, it's more like this year and next with the current lineup more or less. Of course Jimbo obviously might already know enough of about Ferland's situation that he might be planning on having an extra $3.5 or whatever to work with.Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2020 12:22 pmThe teams core is young. It’s not a one year window. Is there a chance they could step back next year? Absolutely but it ain’t a one year window.Megaterio Llamas wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 6:23 pmNah, I'm afraid it's what I've been saying all season long. That said it’s a narrow minded and short sighted trade.
I don't really know too much about this cap business, but I do know Mr Aquilini's crack team of top men in the highly secretive cap compliance lab are on the case around the clock deep in the bowels of Roger's Place. So we just have to have faith I guess.
