Everyone is avoiding the elephant in the room - Patrik Sundström!
#17 is already hoisted in his honour at the A3 Arena in Umeå, when will it happen in Vancouver?
I mean, how many former Canuck players hold a legitimate NHL record?
These are all I can come up with:
Most games, including playoffs:
Mark Messier, 1,992
Most points, one playoff game:
Patrik Sundstrom (April 22, 1988) and Mario Lemieux (April 25, 1989), 8
Most power-play goals, one playoff season: Mike Bossy, (1981), and
Cam Neely, (1991), 9
Most shorthanded goals, career playoffs:
Mark Messier, 14
Most overtime assists, career:
Henrik Sedin, 23
And frankly, Messier's and Hank's records come from being very good players with very long careers, although a most shorthanded goal record of course is something to be proud of.
Still. The most points in one playoff game is a feat that inspires awe. You think it would be Gretzky. But it's not.
It's Patrik Sundström.
