Olaf on the other hand.....
JV at a cheap salary is a value add. The team is far better with his speed and occasional aggressive hit when he is in the bottom 6 vs. when he is out of the lineup. (I actually see more value to him and the team when he is not with Horvat or Pettersson because it is a kind of danger that would otherwise not be in the bottom 2 lines). I think it is very unlikely that he pans out to be a reliable scorer (consistent 20+ goals, 45+ points), but his draft position is sunk costs and his is noticeably more effective than replacement level players who are still getting $1 million.

He's also the kind of player that if some other team is projecting to put it altogether and become a force and values him like that, you consider trading. Because the likelihood that happens is small, and if it really happens, the core is crowded and there's probably going to need to be movement.

As for Olaf, we will know a lot more this year, but the Canucks are positioning themselves to assume that any benefit is found money. That's smart, given that he's behind the normal projection curve of a #6. Still, given the injuries and the fact he is a defensemen with a longer development timeline, the Canucks are still panning for gold in gold country.

Tough to show up if you're not even invited to the rink.

So based on your above statement, Ericksson was overpaid when he initially signed in Vancouver. Glad you finally admit that.

No, bonuses are only allowed on ELCs and 35+ contracts now.
Other than signing, reporting and roster bonuses and in certain conditions where a player has played over 400 games, has been on LTIR 100 or more days in the most recent season and signs a one-year SPC.

What a hell of a career. He seems like a pretty decent dude too. His teammates seemed to really like the guy. A pro’s pro. Went out still playing decent hockey.

I've always said that about UFAs (including Mr Eriksson).

Obviously, in context, Mad and I were discussing performance bonuses. :hmmm:

Okay now that is #3 of the 3 performance bonus types, the one I neglected to mention.

Bravo, give yourself a pat on the back... even though it obviously doesn't apply in the conversation at hand. :hmmm:

Lebanc will receive no more than the $1M we were discussing.

($285K of which comes in the form of a "signing bonus") :drink:

Truth is I don't even know what reporting and roster bonuses are... or if they're included in the AAV.
