Re: Free agent FRENZY thread. July 1, 2019
I disagree that there needs to be trades this summer. Guys like Fantenburg, Sautner, Goldobin, Bouchard, Eriksson will get a chance to win a depth roster spot in the preseason but probably won’t make the team and will have to clear waivers as a group in October. These guys hardly ever get grabbed at that time of the year. They do have one empty slot for an eighth defenseman, so Fantenburg could stick around.
I wouldn’t trade Tanev or Stecher until one of Woo or Rafferty shows they are really ready. You don’t want to force Benn into a top four role after the first injury. There is no rush. They should see how the team looks in the preseason.

Full NMC for Myers next year, then full NTC for 2 years and MNTC for the last 2. About what was expected.
Re: Free agent FRENZY thread. July 1, 2019
Also MNTC for Benn.

Flippula to Detroit because if they can't have a good team, they might as well return to being an old team. I'd think of this as a flip at the deadline deal for a 2/3/4 or B-prospect (depending on how the season goes), but its a 2 year deal!

The trade protection means we don’t have to protect them in the expansion draft. This may or may not be a problem but at least Benning keeps the flexibility there.
The only HW the Canucks need

Entering his 6th season in the job, Jett Black is finally learning about contracts and such. Good for him. He needs a cookieHockey Widow wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 9:54 am The trade protection means we don’t have to protect them in the expansion draft. Does Meier's post-ELC bridge deal (4 @ $6M/per) set the market as the closest comparable to Boeser?

Damn, there goes Nyquist to CBJ.
IMO, the last need for the Canucks this off season is a second line RWer.

Hi DieHard...
As someone who isn't a fan of UFA day, gotta admit that for the most part the dollars handed out so far around the league have been reasonable when you consider that the back half of most of those contracts will be paid from the new TV deal and at least 1 expansion fee....
Most will be similar to the Myers deal where they are heavily front end loaded and lock out protected and will give more reason to have the buyout provisions changed in the next CBA....
As I said before, it benefits both the NHL and the NHLPA so can't see why anyone would oppose eliminating the buyout from cap calculations with certain conditions...
And the Timo Meier RFA signing seems like a good deal and good news for the Canucks regarding the Boeser situation....
Take care...

Zuccrello went to Minny TSN screwed it up earlier.
Nyquist $5.5 with Ducks, good thing cap space does not mean anything in a rebuild.

Baer, Gaudette, Jake or Hoglander? Rather have a proven RWer without concussion issues, but one of these players could surprise. Please no more Eriksson or Goldobin experiments in the top six.RoyalDude wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 10:03 amThat quest isn’t over yetCherry Picker wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 10:02 am Damn, there goes Nyquist to CBJ.
