Benning - “We put a provision in Edler’s contract in case for whatever reason the expansion draft date is moved up that he will be eligible to be exposed.”
12:16 PM - 20 Jun 2019 from Vancouver, British Columbia

Edward really wanted to stay, mm?
Colour me impressed. Three thumbs up for Benning on this one. Chris Gear was obviously in his ear to get such a provision.

Kudos to Edler on this too. He's willing to gamble on himself and trust that the team will want him still in 2 years as a veteran guy. He's giving up some guaranteed years of salary to help the team, especially with that provision.

The speculation regarding his seriousness about wanting to stay in Vancouver is put do rest for me with this, and I take it at full value when he said that he wants to stay even if it means that he moves down the depth chart as other players surpass him in terms of level of play.

I will actually be surprised if he's not re-signed and playing on the 2nd or 3rd pairing 3 years from now at half this current salary.....or less depending.

Yep. This is a big win for Benning/Vancouver. He knew Edler didn’t really want to play elsewhere, and made him prove it.

Based on Kevin Hayes' contract, a player of JT Miller's caliber would have fetched 7.14 x 7 in today's free agency. Instead, the Canucks now have him for 5.25 x 4. The deal takes him to age 30, which is when most forwards end their primes.

I would argue he'd have fetched more because, based on their whole body of work in general, JT looks to be (roughly) at least 5 goals and 10 points better. If Hayes is indeed going to be a contract benchmark going forward (good Christ), then JT's contract is indeed a bargain for 4 more years. I, like most everyone else, had severe sticker shock with that 1st rounder - I think because it's not a sexy pickup. But it is a really solid one. Benning seems to have paid for cost certainty at a good cap hit and good term. Did he over pay? Without being an insider we will likely never know. The occasions where it seems he has negotiated against himself lead to scepticism. All things remaining consistent JT should be putting up Horvat numbers at the same value price tag...Well hopefully Horvat continues to trend upwards but I digress. I just hope the idiot Vancouver fans don't run Miller out of town because they think Gmjb overpaid.

Using the analogy and the current topic, I'd say if miller doesnt come out hot then the whole herd is gonna run a train on your cow while you shuffle down the hill fluffing your age-d member

The Flyers didn’t cough up a 1st and a 3rd for Hayes.
