Hey we're all friends, it's just good-natured ribbing. :D

Pretty easy to skip over it if you're just interested in the hockey talk part.

Off-seasons are always like this, not much to talk about hockey-wise...

If people are interested in hockey, why don't they post more around here?

Easy to pop in every once in a while to snipe, but too difficult to type 1 or 2 sentences about hockey?

Zedlee has a solid point.

Off-seasons have not "always" been like this.

For those who do wish to avoid the pages and pages of ad hominems and pejoratives, perhaps it is time to resurrect this thread: http://canuckscorner.com/forums/viewtop ... =2&t=11793

I said off-seasons are always like this... and they absolutely are. 8-)

Perhaps you were referring to the distant past when you said they have not always been like this.

In that case I agree.

But recall, this place was D E A D in the off-seasons in the distant past.

(easy enough to go back and have a peek)

Fair to say that for many years now things always tend to run more off-topic in the off-season.

(but the traffic is much more prolific now than in the distant past)

Our overlord Corn points this out every year and allows for it.

All this off-topic talk in the off-season is not all bad you know!

It does help folks get to know each other better

... allowing for a better understanding of where the other is coming from.

This is very important for when folks head into serious debates in the regular season.

Knowing where people are coming from also helps keep serious debates from turning nasty.

Nastiness is something we want to avoid and as I said, the "bitch fest" Zed referred to was actually good-natured.

This is a site primarily for talking hockey, but it's okay to have a little fun in the process... don't you think? :)

BTW the thread to which you linked was an in-season thread, intended for the in-season...

Well that was a laudable attempt to justify trolling, but I can't say I am surprised.

You would have to define what you mean by "distant past" for me to be able to agree or disagree with your statement. I stand by my statement that "Off-seasons have not 'always' been like this".
Strangelove wrote: Wed Jun 05, 2019 1:29 pm But recall, this place was D E A D in the off-seasons in the distant past.
Again, depends on your definition of "distant past" and of "D E A D". There were definitely fewer ad hominems and pejoratives being bandied about in the past.
Strangelove wrote: Wed Jun 05, 2019 1:29 pmBTW the thread to which you linked was an in-season thread, intended for the in-season...
Interesting. Corn never stated that and it wasn't my impression.

Perhaps you are hoping that the single thread devoid of trolling will be inaccessible through the summer because you *gasp* enjoy trolling?

Or perhaps you just sincerely desire to truly know where "people are coming from" and feel such thread does not allow the breadth of discussion necessary for such discovery? 🤮

Ummmm what part of "I agree" did you not understand?

You go ahead and "stand by that statement" my good man, I'm standing by it as well.

As far as how things were in the "distant past"... so you agree with me as long I am talking about the right time frame?

... but if I choose the wrong time frame you wish to make a federal case out of it?

Has anyone ever told you you're a lot of fun DonCherry4PM?

I mean who cares about the point right...

So then we agree that at some point in the "distant past"

... this place was "D E A D" in the off-seasons

... and at that same point in the "distant past" there just happened to be less "good-natured ribbing".

(note: what I call "good-natured ribbing"... you call "ad hominems and pejoratives")

Conclusion: Good-natured ribbing, albeit off-topic by nature, brings L I F E

... as opposed to the alternative which brings D E A T H.

Really??

You think I give a flying one about that thread??

Talk about "missing the point"...

Whatevs pal, you go right ahead and post exclusively in that thread 24/7/365, it's all good, knock yourself out!

Is it "ad hominems, pejoratives, and now trolling"

... or is it "good-natured ribbing".

Sadly, I don't think you know the difference my friend.

A quick sampling;

Carlyee; The Canucks last 3 games have been very entertaining.

Micky107; Considering the tough schedule, the team has shown admirably.

Uncle dans leg; I find the games more enjoyable when we score at least one more goal than the opposition.

==========================================================================================================
I think some of us posted with remarkable insight, free of derogatory annotations, yet somewhat exciting, enthralling.
Certainly was something to jump out of bed for in the morning.
