Benning on upcoming UFAs:
As Micky says, he's playing poker - "I like our depth, I guess if we were going to do anything it would be more high-end stuff."
Q: So you're suggesting you're not going for a max, $11 mil a year contract?
A: I don't think we're going to go in that direction, but if there's player we think can help support our younger players we're going to look at that.

Only way to get a RFA is from either a cap maxed team who can't afford to pay raise a RFA or a cash strapped team who don't want to pay a middling 6 forward or a 2nd pairing type RFA a big pay raise.
Trouba might be attainable only due to the fact he makes it extremely hard for the Jets for each contract fight.

Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Jets have cap trouble, too many D, and as you say Trouba has had problematic negotiations each time.SKYO wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2019 10:45 am Only way to get a RFA is from either a cap maxed team who can't afford to pay raise a RFA or a cash strapped team who don't want to pay a middling 6 forward or a 2nd pairing type RFA a big pay raise.

They could also be targeted via trade (a la Ehrhoff), rather than giving up the piles of 1st rounders necessary to get him.

Trouba won’t be cheap. I think the Jets will figure him out quickly after the season. They won’t bring back Myers either way. Someone will overpay him - hopefully not Vancouver.

I would take Trouba over Myers. But I think the Jets will do everything to keep Trouba and let Myers go.

Yeah I tend to agree, might as well spend more on an elite talent, enough mediocre overpaid types.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2019 2:11 pm Trouba won’t be cheap. Grab this rebuild by the horns for once, don't let another Scott Niedermayer slip away again! *EK* july1st

Re: 2019 UFAs and RFAs Thread
What is SJs cap situation? Can they throw large or will they need to offload salary elsewhere to ink him?
Van has the space on the ice and on their cap(i think)...if he like the look of how van is built its not that far fetched to consider they we might be in the running.
11 mill a year tho....wow. He better stay healthy

Think we should also trade for a scoring winger like Mike Hoffman.

Yeah the big issue is SJ has to re-sign Pavelski who is set to become a UFA, and they got fill holes elsewhere as well, plus they got Mr Burns, so EK is just an extra luxury & not really needed especially at 11M per. I think it was a one and done deal right from the beginning.Uncle dans leg wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2019 7:33 pmWhat is SJs cap situation? Time to spread the talent around and Vancouver is looking like the one team who can afford to pay him that and has the upside with the youth uprising and swedish welcoming.

Re: 2019 UFAs and RFAs Thread
One of the talking heads recently mentioned Pavelski as a target for Vancouver. Similar to how Marleau was for the leaves before they really took off. Veteran guy (with plenty of skill left in the tank) to bring the kids to the next level. He's a good faceoff guy, and would give Green the opportunity to run him alongside Pettersson on occasion, while rolling three quality centers deep (Pettey-Pavelski-Horvat). If we could move Sutter, I'd be all for it. He also doesn't turn 35 until July 11, so he wouldn't qualify as a 35+ deal.SKYO wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2019 9:19 pm Yeah the big issue is SJ has to re-sign Pavelski who is set to become a UFA, and they got fill holes elsewhere as well, plus they got Mr Burns, so EK is just an extra luxury & not really needed especially at 11M per.
