The "ALL HOCKEY / NO BS" hockey talk thread

Post by Cornuck »

We've had some requests to create a new thread where topics don't get off-topic, there aren't any personal attacks or other unnecessary comments and large photos, gifs etc.

This is that thread.

Rules are simple - if you post something off-topic or non-hockey related to the discussion, it will be deleted. Of course, there is a VERY fine line between what is feedback to a post and what is a personal attack, but that that fine line will be decided by the mods. If you can't abide by these simple rules, just skip this thread altogether.

If this thread gets busy, we might create a 2nd - maybe one for the Canucks, and one for NHL news.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Should the Sedins come out of retirement if the Canucks are playoff bound? Throw Petey on the right side with the Twins?

I would love to see this... but I highly doubt it happens.

Agree. Would be pretty sweet to see them strap on the skates again.

Hypothetically, would you immediately make them 2/3 of the 3rd or 4th line or would you try them with say Pettersson?

Considering the tough schedule, the team has shown admirably.

They're pretty much where I want them to be: In the hunt so the games are meaningful down the stretch and they keep good habits, but out of a playoff spot so nobody gets any funny ideas about buying at the TDD, and they get a draft lottery ticket - even if the odds aren't great. Maybe Benning can pull a Philadelphia and get lucky this time. Maybe Francesco can slip some bitcoins to Gary with a "C'mon, the draft is in my barn." rationale.

I find the games more enjoyable when we score at least one more goal than the opposition

Agreed Lancer, would love to see playoffs but the team has too many warts and Genius Jim even with a 14th overall pick will get a ultra star player. I jest but the truth is that the Nucks really do lack 2 - 3 more dependable D men. With Edler/Tanev always hurt we need to almost count them as 1 player, would be interesting to see how many games one of them have missed.

I still believe we are 1 true top 6 forward away from competing with the big boys. Not to mention 2 to 3 more guys on D. While I would love to see playoffs, I can't quite see us making it. Hopefully we will get the Philly treatment from a few years ago, just miss out and get the lotto bounce. Would love to see them trade Sutter for a solid young D man.

After 50 years of no Canucks lotto luck, this year would be nice to get some of that luscious draft lotto bounce our way for once! As the team does have a core structure forming, just yeah adding that extra weapon up front would be key.

I hope JB or even Judd Brackett goes to the lotto this year, anything to change it up.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Expedient, opportune drafting will most assuredly optimize the prosperity of our franchise regardless of position.

Bo Horvat? 1 goal in his last 16 games. When does this become a concern? And do we need to revisit - “what we have in Bo”? “What Level if s centre do we have in him”? “Elite 2C”? Or “Good 2C”?

Quintessentially true, albeit almost all Cup champions in this cap era have had at least one top 2 pick to nab an elite talent.

Last 10 years NHL Cup champs:

Capitals - #1 Ovie
Penguins X2 - #1 Crosby, #2 Malkin
Blackhawks X3 - #1 Kane, #3 Toews
Kings X2 - #2 Doughty
Bruins - #2 Seguin (& key UFA signing Chara)
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

I would go out on a limb and say we bucked that trend with an elite superstar in EP and an elite goalscorer like Brock (too early for elite status?)

Don't know where Hughes might end up but there is great hope.

We just need to start upgrading the D (duh!) and replacing the placeholders with better options.

I know we can contend again without winning the draft lottery. Delusional? Maybe.
