Re: 2018 Offseason
I have no problem with Del Zotto at 3 million on a two year deal. He cost nothing but money and on this garbage fire he is a 3/4. Ideally you’d want him on the bottom pairing. That’s where he would be on a decent team.

Re: 2018 Offseason
I’d be fine with Evander at a decent number. I doubt he comes here though, some contender will sign him if San Jose doesn’t. I know he’s from here and that’s a draw, but not sure he wants to be on yet another rebuilding team after enduring both Winnipeg and Buffalo. What we should be doing is offering to take contract from a team like SJ so they can sign a big name FAStrangelove wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 6:24 pm Baertchi - Horvat - Boeser

Kane - Sutter - Virtanen

MDZ/Olli – Tanev
MDZ/Olli – Gudbranson
Pouliot/Sautner – Stecher/Biega
Markstrom
Demko
Sign Green for 2 years, Kane for 6, trade Goldobin, Gagne, Hutton for picks…
Iike Evander.
As for Green? Sure that works, assuming he’s healthy. He’s an offensive guy for the PP but needs to be sheltered at even strength. Should be doable.
I’d rather keep Goldy and see what he can do, he’s been good the past 20 games or so. Gagner can go, and Hutton already has a foot out the door.

Re: 2018 Offseason
Diehard what do you think about Ian Cole or Calvin De Haan as potential UFA ?
I like the idea of bringing in Ryan Reeves as was suggested above. Give him ten minutes a night and pin his ears back.

Re: 2018 Offseason
Agreed, he should be a 5. This team isn’t going to be good next year regardless and the D is a big weakness, another MDZ type would help. That’s not an endorsement of MDZ as much as it’s a statement of how bad the D is.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 7:24 pm I have no problem with Del Zotto at 3 million on a two year deal. Re: 2018 Offseason
Don’t mind De Haan, he’s similar to MDZ as a 4/5 who won’t offer much offence but will play solid minutes. Cole is a solid 4 but he’s had issues staying healthy. He’s a guy that looks great on a contender but may be overmatched on this D. Beggars can’t be choosers though, both guys would improve the group.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 7:30 pm Diehard what do you think about Ian Cole or Calvin De Haan as potential UFA ?

Reaves is ok, he’s tough as hell and can play a little, though I stress a little. Still, he would give the young guys a bit more confidence out there which is what guys like him are usually good for as they don’t usually do much policing anymore. My guess is he gets offered a decent sized multi-year deal by somebody and I’m not sure if that works for me given he’s already in his 30s.

Re: 2018 Offseason
Locking in to Kane for six years is a train wreck waiting to happen. The guy just makes too many poor choices. I’d offer higher salary with shorter term, would like three years max.Strangelove wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 6:24 pm Baertchi - Horvat - Boeser

Rather get a much cheaper Reaves to play on an energy/checking/protection role and see if the kids can bring the scoring.

Re: 2018 Offseason
You expected him to be a Top 4 dman when he was 21 years old?Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 7:05 pmGudbranson has played too 4 minutes in two of seven seasons. Once in five years in Florida and once here.Strangelove wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 6:41 pmBlob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 6:30 pm There isn’t another team in the league where they would get top 4 ice time
We've already had this debate about Guds and you conceded he received top 4 minutes in Florida.
As I've already told you, he has been putting up Top 4 minutes since he turned 22 (mid 2014-15 season).
As usual, you had no reply...
Philly averaged 90 points over those 3 seasons, making the playoffs once.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 7:05 pmDel Zaster is fine on the third pair and on Philly their D was a mess when he got big minutes. He went steadily downhill after starting out strong as a young guy inNY. So big deal they can get top 4 minutes on a team or two with horrendous back ends. Doesn’t make them legit top 4 guys, certainly not on a decent team.Strangelove wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 6:41 pm MDZ received top 4 minutes for 3 season in Philly and another 3 seasons in New York.
The year they made the playoffs (2015-16) he was #1 on the team in icetime at 23:14 mins per (the year before he was #2 at 21:55).
In 2011-12 the Rangers had 109 points and made it to the conference finals... MDZ was 3rd in icetime at 22:26.
In 2012-13 Rags had a 98-point pace in the shortened season, made it to the semifinals... MDZ was 4th in icetime at 23:10.
"Not a legit top 4 guy on a decent team"
MDZ has been a Top 4 dman for 6 of the last 7 seasons, on 3 different teams and GMJB got him at $3M per!
Right. No debate is necessary because Blob has made up his mind!Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 7:05 pmIt is the leagues worst D. End of storyStrangelove wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 6:41 pm Ahhh but this team doesn't have "the leagues worst defence" (no matter how many times you say it).
I've asked you twice now to rebut my post on this, but you prefer your blindfold and endless repetitions...

Like most people, Mr Kane seems to be making less "poor choices" as he ages, not the other way around.
Reaves is a 5-goal-per-year 4th liner, Kane is a 30-goal-per-year 1st liner...

Re: 2018 Offseason
Gudbranson has one season in five getting top 4 minutes n Florida and one season in two here. That’s 2 out of 7 Einstein. Del Zotto is a decent 5/6 but his play has regressed for a few years. He is not a top 4 guy on a decent team. Take your trolling to another thread. it’s an off season thread.

Re: 2018 Offseason
Reaves is worthless, he’s not a deterrent, and he’ll never be on the ice when guys get cheapshotted, Kane is a legit top 6 player that will be on the ice Brock or Peterson, a 6 yr contract on him especially if he wants to come home is a no brainer.Strangelove wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 7:56 pmYou'd be fine with him for 3 years but not 6?Cherry Picker wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 7:43 pm Locking in to Kane for six years is a train wreck waiting to happen. Re: 2018 Offseason
Let's bring in the last remaining journeyman 4th line goon - Reaves, so he can fight..., well, nobody.
How much longer do you plan on living under that rock for, Bubbles? Should we ask Colton Orr to come out of retirement?

He had 1.5 seasons "getting top 4 minutes in Florida" (his last 1.5 seasons)
And 2 here. (as per the our debate... which I won btw)
That's 3.5 seasons out of 3.5 seasons.
Einstein.
Not many are top-4 at the age of 21...
Well I've just proven that statement wrong with facts and figures, but if Blob says otherwise just-beacauseBlob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 7:58 pm Del Zotto is a decent 5/6 but his play has regressed for a few years. He is not a top 4 guy on a decent team.

BTW it's important in an off-season thread to determine what kind of players we have.
