2017-18 Utica Comets

Post by SKYO »

Should be a much better team this season.

Ryan Johnson new GM, great at developing youngsters into pros.

New coach.
Gary Agnew will join Utica as an associate coach, joining head coach Trent Cull’s staff.

Agnew was an assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2015-16 and was the head coach of the Syracuse Crunch for six years.
New players.
The club has signed defenseman Jaime Sifers to a two-year American Hockey League contract.

Sifers, 34, has spent the last three season with the Columbus Blue Jackets’ AHL affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters, posting a total of 61 points (14-47-61) and 242 penalty minutes in 217 games.

In those three seasons, the Stratford, Connecticut-native served as the alternate captain and was a member of the 2016 Calder Cup champion team. The defenseman led the team with a plus-18 in the 2015-16 championship season.

An 11-year professional, Sifers has amassed 149 career points in the AHL (35-114-149) and 547 penalty minutes.

Trent Gull will really be put to the test early.
Cuts from the Canucks coming later.
Some REAL strong cases for promotion from Alaska, (noticeable), in the young stars games.
Utica should have a damned good team this year.
It should, look more like a good minor league affiliate ought to.
I hope we have more access this year...

Utica now has Megna, Chaput and Bachman back. Hopefully Pedan joins them tomorrow. Add in the potential of getting Archibald back.

They should be a skilled team with a lot of toughness.

Cassells not expected to join them for the next month due to his arm injury but he will help when he's healthy.

Once Gaunce is healthy, barring any other injuries, Comets will get another addition too.
The only HW the Canucks need

Temporarily at least. Linden has said they will send him to Utica for conditioning then bring him back up. Will decide then what the roster looks like. Barring injuries be prepared to see Boeser sent to Utica.

Looks that way. He's better off in Utica working on his skating and playing minutes than practicing up here and riding the pine.

Trent Cull showing a lot of praise for his young goalie Demko.
Cull on Demko: He was very good, show me a good coach and I will show you a good goaltender.
