The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Why is N. Korea aloud to have nukes at all?
S. Korea doesn't.

This will never be over until N. Korea has no nukes at all.

Did you know that there are thousands of families still waiting to be re-united since 1953 ?

The young fat little N. Korean's voice only rings loud because it's the only way he stays in power.

I say, let him die.

Korea with no border under democratic rule. (elections), no nukes.

Done! Safer, better world for everyone.

Basically, North Korea is not allowed to have nukes.
But they don't give a shit.

Who is going to enforce it? Who could take their nukes away?
China probably could, but they are torn.

The thing is, South Korea is very closely allied with the USA.
A reunified democratic Korea would also be that.
That means China would suddenly have a land border with a US ally.
They don't want that. Thus they want to keep North Korea as a buffer.

Don't get me wrong, Kim Jong Un gets on their nerves as well.
That's why they started contacting his older brother, who should have inherited the top job in North Korea, but who was kicked out of the country after it turned out he had secretly taken his family to Disneyland. He seemed a lot more mellow, and the Chinese would like North Korea to be less annoying, so... Unfortunately, the second Kim Jong Un heard that the Chinese were trying to cultivate his brother, he made sure to have him offed. They hired two young Malaysian women, who were told they were on a sort of candid camera show, gave them squirt guns with a nerve poison and pointed them in his direction... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/02 ... s-poison1/

So, yeah, Kim Jong Un has no real friends outside of North Korea, but the Chinese still have his back, sort of, because they do not want a reunified Korea, and for the time being, they don't seem to have another option.

If the North Koreans actually do nuke some one, that might make the Chinese willing to do something about it.
But until that happens, the Chinese will block any international intervention in North Korea.

The Economist, under the heading "Unfit":
Mr Trump’s inept politics stem from a moral failure. Some counter-demonstrators were indeed violent, and Mr Trump could have included harsh words against them somewhere in his remarks. But to equate the protest and the counter-protest reveals his shallowness. Video footage shows marchers carrying fascist banners, waving torches, brandishing sticks and shields, chanting “Jews will not replace us”. Footage of the counter-demonstration mostly shows average citizens shouting down their opponents. And they were right to do so: white supremacists and neo-Nazis yearn for a society based on race, which America fought a world war to prevent. Mr Trump’s seemingly heartfelt defence of those marching to defend Confederate statues spoke to the degree to which white grievance and angry, sour nostalgia is part of his world view.

Nice to see an increasing number of republicans distancing themselves from Donnie John.

And yet the “Moral Majority” has been praising President Trump more than ever.

Funny that.

Could it be that “morality” much like “beauty” lies in the eye of the beholder?

For example I consider it immoral to falsely label someone a “racist”

you on the other hand might not. :sly:

Well, the "Moral Majority" stole one right out of the bolshevik playbook. As you probably know, bolshevik means "of the majority", but just like the "Moral Majority", the bolsheviks were in reality always a minority with extremist views. They just figured that by pretending to be the majority, they'd get more followers.
Strangelove wrote:Could it be that “morality” much like “beauty” lies in the eye of the beholder?
Absolutely. Moral is not a constant. The bible thinks it is OK to sell your daughters as slaves, and suggests that disobedient children should be stoned to death. I think today most parents would consider those ideas immoral. But we have to realize that the bible mirrors what was thought to be moral in the Middle East during the late bronze age and early iron age. The world has changed.*

Of course it is immoral to falsely label someone a racist.
But calling a spade a spade is OK, even if you perhaps should refrain from it during family gatherings.

Ever hear of the New Testament... Per?

The Bible makes it clear that the Law was for the time before Christ.

The Bible says man was once "under the Law"... but is now "under Grace".

Thus endeth the Bible lesson.

Wiki is good for something.

To "call a spade a spade" is a figurative expression which refers to calling something "as it is",[1] that is, by its right or proper name, without "beating about the bush"—being outspoken about it, truthfully, frankly, and directly, even to the point of being blunt or rude, and even if the subject is considered coarse, impolite, or unpleasant. The idiom originates in the classical Greek of Plutarch's Apophthegmata Laconica, and was introduced into the English language in 1542 in Nicolas Udall's translation of the Apophthegmes, where Erasmus had seemingly replaced Plutarch's images of "trough" and "fig" with the more familiar "spade." The idiom has appeared in many literary and popular works, including those of Oscar Wilde, Charles Dickens, W. Somerset Maugham, and Jonathan Swift.

In modern times the phrase has also become commonly been used to refer to not being politically correct by not avoiding reference to racial origin / color from the use of spade as a reference to color - as in "ace of spades".

sooooooo we cant call a spade a spade.....
