Lundquist now confirmed, and it seems Bäckström will head over as well. :D

Eddie Läck finally got a game and posted a shutout as Sweden beat Latvia 2-0.
Good for him! His first cap, and it's a shutout.

Might be his only game of the tournament though, as the coaches seemed to consider Fasth the starter, and now with Lundquist on board, Eddie will be the third stringer. Well, barring injuries, of course.

But now the elimination games begin! From now on it's do or die. :drink:

Quarter finals:

Canada vs Germany
Russia vs Czech Republic
Sweden vs Switzerland
USA vs Finland

I predict the semifinals to be Canada vs Russia and Sweden vs USA and if allgoes well we should get a Canada vs Sweden final! 8-)

Alex Edler on fire again, clear he needs to move on to a contender to get his inner motivation going.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Yeah, good game by Edler. But the Nylander goal was the beauty of the game!

Finland, who have looked like shyte all tournament, finally got their act together and surprisingly beat the US team that had narrowly beaten Sweden and Russia in the roundrobin.

Which means we get two hockey classics in the semifinals:
Sweden vs Finland and Canada vs Russia!

Brong it on! 8-)

OK, Per, you got what you wanted!
But. If Sweden wins, don't you dare brag about it. 8-)

Your team is rather stacked, no?

I still hold Canada as favourites.

Sure, we were able to get more quality NHLers this time than normally, and the blueline is stacked. Out of the seven d-men playing for Sweden in this tournament, four or five would be on an Olympic team with all players available. Hedman, Ekman-Larsson and Strålman for sure. Klingberg and Edler quite possibly. Klingberg has the problem that he is Erik Karlsson light, and with Karlsson available, team management could be sceptical to have his clone on the roster as well. Edler has great upside and a huge physical game, but is prone to mistakes. With all the great Swedish d available at present, I'd give him a 50% shot at making an Olympic roster.

But up front is a different story.... of the fifteen forwards on the team, I guess maybe five would make the cut for an Olympic roster. We've got Bäckström, Landeskog, Krüger. And I guess Nylander has proven himself worthy in this tournament and should make the cut. But the rest... they don't suck, but they probably wouldn't measure up to Silfverberg, Arvidsson, Forsberg, Steen, Zetterberg et al who would be available then. Not to mention the twins.

In goal, we do have the #1 we want and two half decent backups. I'd rather have better backups, but if Henrik is good to go, there's really not much to compain about.

All in all, I'd say we have the better goalie and blue line, but you have the better offence and coach.
It should be a good game. 8-)

I don't know. I think you could throw a cape on Backtrom and call him a super hero the way he is playing. ;)

Can't imagine the heights he could have reached if not having to ride the coat-tails of the mighty Ovechkin.
Now there's a guy I would have loved to put with the twins. :P

Funny you should say that. Some reporter commented on the chemistry between him and Nylander, and said they reminded him of Batman and Robin....

Very exciting game. Both teams trading chances.
Kind of annoying that it's decided by penalties, but then, rather fitting that Lundqvist got to be the hero.
He meant a lot for this team.
As did Bäckström.
