World Championship 2017
Looks like Sweden could get a half decent team this year.
Especially on the blue line, even if it seems Erik Karlsson will not be able to make it.
These players have already agreed to come:
Eddie Läck, Carolina Hurricanes
Alexander Edler, Vancouver Canucks
Oliver Ekman Larsson, Arizona Coyotes
Victor Hedman, Tampa Bay Lightning
Anton Strålman, Tampa Bay Lightning
John Klingberg, Dallas Stars
Gabriel Landeskog, Colorado Avalanche
Elias Lindholm, Carolina Hurricanes
William Karlsson , Columbus Blue Jackets
Joakim Nordström, Carolina Hurricanes
Victor Rask, Carolina Hurricanes
Carl Söderberg, Colorado Avalanche
Marcus Krüger, Chicago Blackhawks

Will anyone be watching?
Re: World Championship 2016
Oh yeah! Hockey is very popular in Germany, so the games should be well attended!Reefer2 wrote:Will anyone be watching?
I'll watch Sweden's games, and probaby a few of the other as well.
Probably both semi finals plus the final.
It's not the Olympics, but it's still a chance to see some of Sweden's better players at prime time on a channel included in my basic cable package deal.

I must admit. This surprised me. Is Eddie the best available? I wish him all the best, but he seems like a weak link on that roster.Strangelove wrote:Per wrote:Looks like Sweden could get a half decent team this year.

Re: World Championship 2016
Well, he is one of only five Swedish goalies to have played 20+ games in the NHL this season.Puck wrote:I must admit. This surprised me. Is Eddie the best available? Of the other four, Henrik Lundquist is otherwise occupied, Jacob Markström is injured and Robin Lehner and Anders Nilsson are between contracts. Lehner has said though, that if he and the Sabres have come to terms before the World Championship starts, he'd be happy to play.

Re: World Championship 2017
Should change title to 2017.
Alex Edler is a wrecking ball again, all that frustration playing on this stagnant team and he's revitalized on his new Team Sweden squad.

Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

You forgot to mention how this newfound interest in the game might make him waive to more teams and provide more options for a trade.SKYO wrote:Should change title to 2017.

Re: World Championship 2017
Torts was the only one with the nads to call him out.
Edler is in his comfort zone in Vancouver.
Best friends forever with the captain and the president.
The only reason I like him on the team is because it drives Mëds completely insane.

Re: World Championship 2017
Victor Fasth has started the two first games for Sweden, and thus seems to be the coaches's choice for #1.
He wasn't all that successful in the NHL, but has played 30 games for the Ducks and 33 for the Oilers over four seasons. He is now the second stringer for CSKA Moskva in the KHL and has posted pretty good stats there, a 1.61 GAA and .921 saves average in 15/16 followed by 1.69 and .929 in 16/17. It's his fourth world championship, and combined with having played in both the NHL and the KHL he has ample international experience. He was also named best goalie in the SHL twice (10/11 and 11/12) before heading to Anaheim.
Which brings us back to Läck. I read a column by a Swedish journalist who covers the NHL, who states that Eddie is a great guy to have in the locker room. A positive and friendly guy who is well liked by everyone. This in combination with being a decent enough goalie could probably make him the ideal backup.

Re: World Championship 2017
Two real upsets so far; Germany beating the USA 2-1 and France beating Finland 5-1 (sic!).
Nylander looked really good in Sweden's 7-2 game against Germany.
First a brilliant play and pass to Brodin for the 4-2 goal, then roofing the puck on a breakaway for 6-2 and finally gong into traffic in front of Germany's goal ans just forcing the puck in.
A few years down the line this kid could become a really good player.

William Nylander will be asking for a huge raise in 2018.

Re: World Championship 2017
Guess Lundquist may be available after all.
And his twin brother, Joel, is already on the roster.
Make it happen!
