My grandparents lived on Granville between 50th and 54th or something like that, it was 1 block stretched over 4 blocks. Wonder if they knew Toppers grandparents?

Too far south..........but take that stretch over to the Fraser/Knight Street area and they may have known my other grandparents
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Every Christmas as a kid, my dad and uncles would loudly reminisce with each other about their distant past. 'This old uncle would turn up for family dinners and hide his whiskey bottle in the toilet tank,' 'Remember Jim, he'd come down from the Kootenays and palm $5 to each of the kids when he saw them.. and of course Chris would have to see how many times he could get one,' 'remember so and so who used to come into Murchies,' etc. the cousins and my sister and I would all roll our eyes about these same stories being told over again about a bunch of people we'd never met or seen.

I live on the other side of the country now and it's not worth flying back for the holidays but all the same its charming to see a bunch of old guys wax nostalgic about a slightly similar time and place so cheers for that. The (almost as) old uncles of Canucks Corner.

Time to use my psychic powers for Canucks future trades...

Image

Canucks can't look like they are sellers outright, gotta sorta mask it by trading higgins for a pick "cap/roster space" and then Hamhuis as he won't re-sign for $4M per (JB: DH won't re-sign for that much? ok gotta get something for him amiright? and the ol' trade him to a contender sales pitch to season ticket holders.

Burrows will be traded at the draft for roster/cap space, as JB/TL continue on with the molding the future Canucks with a younger team - while remaining competitive strategy.

Vrbata's rights traded for a 5th in late June, as in the weak pacific this team in all likelihood probably makes the playoffs, so gotta keep the veteran sniper!

Drouin publicly came out the he wants to get traded now, he's done in TB.

So Johansen, Drouin and Hamonic all available for trade.

While Drouin is still just a sophomore he was a top-3 draft pick who many thought would challenge for the 1st overall crown, so despite a slow start to his career, he still has a "marquis" name as far as young prospects go.

Add the whole issue surrounding Martin St. Louis and his subsequent request to be traded, and the ongoing saga that is Stamkos' lack of a contract extension, and there is something that just smells funny in Tampa Bay.

If Yzerman is not going to pony up and give Stammer the big dollars he would be smart to do two things.....

1. Trade Stamkos to Toronto. The leaves will overpay, despite new management they will cough up the asking price, or very near to it. If Dougie Hamilton commands a 1st round pick and a pair of 2nd round picks, then Stamkos is easily worth a pair of 1st round picks, a 2nd or 3rd, and a prospect or player (if you believe he's a franchise center that is).

2. Trade Drouin+2nd or 3rd from Toronto+something to Columbus for Johansen.

Shores up the center position and then they can replace Drouin this year or next or the next depending upon when the 2nd pick is.
