That's cool. I wonder what Tort's take on Luongo's family situation is.
Re: Vancouver Canucks hire coach John Tortorella
Torts is one of the better spazzers in the NHL coaching family. I'm sort of looking forward to seeing it.
Let's do an over\under on how long it takes to hear a PBP guy say
"....and Torterella is LOSING it behind the Vancouver bench!"
I'm going with under 5 games.
Seriously though, the guy is gonna snap when he sees how this team is officiated in the playoffs.

So true, which might actually be a good thing. AV's mantra always was to "play the game the right way" and things will work out. Well, the NHL ain't exactly the best run organization, and we know the squeeky wheel gets the grease more often than not. Torts won't have a problem taking a fine for publicly lambasting an official if he thinks it will help his team.Rumsfeld wrote:Seriously though, the guy is gonna snap when he sees how this team is officiated in the playoffs.

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

Still can't believe Gillis hired this guy, he pretty much goes against the entire philosophy Mikey's been preaching since day 1.
That said, I'm kinda glad he did, because this is gonna be hilarious!
Strap yourself in kids.
BTW, if this really is a "kinder, gentler" Torts... lame.

Torts = BOSS@benkuzma
What we learned today:
Don't ask Torts about other team, his line-up, the division, conference or himself.
Other than that, it's wide open.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.
Re: Vancouver Canucks hire coach John Tortorella
I'd have to hear the questions and answers but that sounds pretty silly.SKYO wrote:Torts = BOSS@benkuzma

And just when Torts was inspiring me to be a kinder, gentler Rumsfeld.
Guess he's trying to rally the troops with an "us against the world" kinda vibe.
if only that actually worked in pro sports...

Q to Torts:
WTF were you thinking putting the Sedins on the PK, with a minute left with the score 4-1? Are you really that stupid to risk an injury to one of your two top players to kill off a meaningless penalty? Schroeder got hurt blocking a shot...do you really want that to happen to Dank? Oh wait...Daniel did take one off the foot and hobble around.
Dumb move Torts.

He obviously figured their lightning speed would force a breakaway. Torts can deal with 4-2, but 4-1 really pisses him off.Zedlee wrote:Q to Torts:

I really hope we're not one of the top shot-blocking teams statistically this year. It usually means you never have the puck.
Since we built this team on the Detroit model and the Wings have had the most successful system in the league for the last two decades, I'd be kind of curious to see what their blocked-shot stats have looked like over the last 10 years or so.
When you consider how many shots we blocked last night and then add the 35+ shots the Sharks had on net, it really shows how badly we got owned last night. The Sharks are just deadly at home.

This post, along with all the talk about Torts and shot blocking since he was hired got me curious about which teams have owned this category, and where the Canucks and Wings (and Rangers) ranked.Rumsfeld wrote:I really hope we're not one of the top shot-blocking teams statistically this year. For what it's worth, last night the Canucks were credited with 22 blocked shots (they averaged less than 12 blocked shots / game last season)

The Wings were dead last in blocked shots both years they went to the Final and won a Cup. So yeah, the puck-possession mantra definitely holds true. LOL @ the Islanders.
Fucking Wings are gonna have 22 years straight making the playoffs this year. Pretty amazing.
What's the Canuck record, six years straight? And most of that streak occurred back when all you had to do to make the playoffs was not finish dead last in the division ('91-96). If we can make it this year then we tie that streak...
