Canucks select Hunter Shinkaruk with the #24 pick.

Post by Cornuck »

2012-13 Team: Medicine Hat League: WHL
Position: C / RW Vitals: 5'11 /174 lbs
Notes
Hunter is a very determined and competitive offensive player. He has very good skating ability with speed, quickness, change of pace, agility and excellent balance.

A speedy winger, Shinkaruk is an offense-minded with the silky hands and excellent vision to keep up with his legs. He isn't the fastest skater around but has a good skating technique. Despite Shinkaruk's small size, he is not afraid to get into battles or crash the crease. He also works hard and plays with a great attitude. He has improved his play without the puck but still needs to work on his allround game.

5-11? I thought Gillis was done with short guys?

BTW, Horvat is only 1 inch taller than Shinkaruk.

Shinkaruk was the #6 ranked NA skater in the final rankings. Most mock drafts had the kid going ~15th.

This looks to be a good draft so far pick wise.

Um, but Horvat is a bull, 211 lbs.

Love this pick, did not expect Shinkaruk to be there. Great day for the Nucks at the draft. Horvat and Shinkaruk are gonna grow together in this organization, Canuck future looking a fair bit more promising now. We should be seeing these two, Horvat and Shinkaruk at the WJC's I imagine. Yes, Hunter is slight at just under 5'11 and 175 lbs, he ain't a Schroeder shrimp, but the kid is highly skilled, has a real nose for the net, super fast and highly competive. Love it.

hunter will likely be in the 190+ range when he is in the NHL. This isn't a runt pick. It's just not a 220lb behemoth pick.

Obviously not planned but the 2 kids seem to have very complementary skill sets.

Kind of interesting that most of the mock drafts I saw had Shinkaruk as high or higher then Horvat.

I agree, these two could develop some real nice chemistry between each other, very complimentary skill sets and both seem to have a real good attitudes.

Is it a coincidence they're both serious Christians? :eh:

Hunter seems to have a lot of Patrick Kane in his game. Very good shot, good skater, needs to add muscle. I really like the two picks today, all of a sudden the Nucks have a decent number of forwards coming soon. They were badly needed and the D looks ok given Corrado, Tanev, Edler, Garrison are all here for a number of years to come.
