Sweden.
- 7 840 reported rapes last year, half of victims are children.
- 2nd highest number of rapes per capita in the world.
- Record number of fatal shootings last year.
- 40 000 girls genitally mutilated.
- 162 bombings last year.
- Over 50 bombings so far this year.
Is this shit real Per?
The numbers look as they are correct, but they are sort of taken out of context.
Yes, the numbers of reported rapes are high in Sweden and climbing, but that does not necessarily mean there are more people being raped here than elsewhere. Even in Sweden, it is estimated that less than half of rapes are reported, and in many other countries that percentage is even lower. First of all, most rapes are committed by a close acquaintance (typically boyfriend, husband, classmate or relative) and many hesitate to report it because of that. Furthermore, being raped often carries a stigma, and so people do not want others to know that they have been raped. In many countries and cultures a raped woman is considered damaged goods, and so telling people what has happened can mean they will most likely never get married and they may also get shunned by their family. As an example, there have been several years since a rape was last reported in Saudi Arabia. That does probably not mean women are better off there. In Sweden women are encouraged to report rape and sexual abuse, and the numbers have risen further since the Me Too movement began.
Also, comparing rape figures with other countries can be misleading for other reasons as well. For a long time we have included rape By a spouse in the statistics. In many countries that is not even considered a crime. In 2005 the definitions of rape were further altered in Sweden to include many things that were earlier labelled sexual abuse. Thus rape no longer necessarily has to include penetration. In 2013 the definition was widened again, to include forced sex with passive victims. Earlier the victim had to protest or fight for it to be considered rape, but since many people go apathetic and passive when scared, the definition has been changed to include them. Basically any sex without verbal consent can now qualify as rape. I think Julian Assange might have something to say about the wider definition of rape in Sweden as compared to other countries. Hopefully we will soon have him extradited so he can be heard in court on this matter. Recently the courts have also started to charge men who have had sex with victims of sex trafficing with rape, as it can safely be assumed that those women were not willingly participating but forced to do it for money. Yet another confounding factor is that when someone has been raped multiple time, each incident is counted in Sweden, while many other countries just report it as one case. Thus if eg a woman in Sweden reports that her husband has forced himself upon her on a werkly basis for two years, that will be reported as 104 cases of rape in Sweden, while not even being a crime in most countries. BRÅ, that publishes official crime statistics in Sweden does note that two thirds of the increase in rape in 2018 were caused by three isolated cases.
Yes, fatal shootings reach an all time high last year, 45.
This can be compared to 39,773 in the USA or 130 in Canada (the Canadian figure is in 2016, I didn''t find the most recent).
Considering that Sweden has 10 million and Canada 30 million people this means our gun deaths have now risen to roughly the same heights as in Canada. We are still a far safer country than the USA.
Genital mutilation is common in immigrants from Africa and parts of the Middle East. To have it performed here, or to take someone from Sweden abroad to have it done, are criminal offences. With an increase in immigration from these parts of the world, we surely have some here now. Afaik though, the actual number is unknown, and this must be based on an estimation on how common it is in different countries of origin. We do not pull down the panties of every single female immigrant to check.
Bombings? Not sure on that one, but I think it may refer to grenade attacks. Due to an oversight hand grenades have not been listed as weapons illegal to carry in Sweden. It is being adressed, not sure, hopefully they already fixed it. Thus a gang member carrying a gun would get arrested, but a gang member carrying a hand grenade would just have it confiscated and then be released. As a consequence some drug gangs started using hand grenades instead of guns. It is freaky, it is weird and it has happened. Both the shootings and the grenades have been like 99% criminal on criminal though. There has been the odd incident where a hit man has mistaken the identity of a person and killed the wrong guy, but mainly both the gun violence and the "bombings" have been in connection with drug related turf wars. It is terrible that it happens, and the police need to stamp these gangs out, but it does not pose a great risk to those of us not involved in the drug trade.
It has however become very popular for the Russians and the alt right to take facts like these and try to make them seem indicative of a society gone wrong. I say they are blown out of proportion. Rapes are bad, but to combat them we have to put a searchlight on it, and then people think we have more of it than those who turn a blind eye. It's like the suicide thing again. Sweden started publishing fairly reliable statistics on suicide in the 1930's already. In most countries suicides would not be acknowledged, but referred to as accidental deaths, partly of concern for the families, partly for religious reasons. So throughout the 1940's and 1950's people abroad started talking about the extremely high number of suicides in Sweden. You still here people, even Swedes, state that we have the most suicides in the world, which is simply not true. Today, when most countries have more accurate statistics, we're just below average for Western Europe, and suicides are more common in Eastern Europe. And this is probably how it was all along, just that the others were not publishing correct numbers. I say we see a similar thing when it comes to rape. Swedish women are rather emancipated and will take no shit.i have no problem believing that they are more prone to report rape than eg their Sicilian or even French counterparts. Add to this the difference in legislation, and it is absolutely logical that the number of reported rapes would be higher in Sweden. It really says nothing about in which country there are more rapes. I mean, how many women did Cosby rape before one of them dared to come forward? R Kelly? Trump?
Actual rape numbers in Sweden are probably even higher than what is reported, but I would dare say the discrepancy is not as great as in countries where slut shaming and the practice of settling out of court is common and I maintain that Sweden is one of the safest countries on the planet. But of course we have crime. It's not Shangri-La.
