Well, we mainly took slaves from the British isles and Russia (the words Slav and slave were originally the same, as in ”do you have any Slavs to sell?”, but then the Christian missionaries from Britain and the continent said we couldn’t, so we stopped. Yet they then kept on using slaves themselves for another 800 years or so. A bit hypocritical imho.
It shows in Icelandic dna. More than 90% of y chromosome allelles (inherited from father to son) in Iceland are of Norwegian origin, but 62% of mitochondrial dna (inherited from mother to daughter) is of Scottish/Irish origin.
