Yup. All branches of US intelligence agreed that it was the Russians. So, it seems pretty clear.Strangelove wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 1:26 pmAre you sure it wasn't magic fairies?

And is there any proof that the Russkies managed to get so much as one single voter to change his/her vote?
Russia has been trying to influence American elections (and vice versa) for decades
... so why are you whiny leftists making such a big deal about it all of a sudden.
Oh right! Whiny foot-stomping TDS leftists lost = "NOT FAIR!!"
BTW I've heard magic fairies can fool US Intel into thinking they're Russkies. Hey, it's powerful magic!

^ I quite enjoyed that.
I had forgotten about that 'Big Bad John' long long ago.
Been a few decades since I heard it, and I like the new lyrics.

https://www.justice.gov/storage/report.pdfThe Russian government interfered in the 2016 presidential election in sweeping and systematic fashion. Evidence of Russian government operations began to surface in mid-2016. In June, the Democratic National Committee and its cyber response team publicly announced that Russian hackers had compromised its computer network. Releases of hacked materials—hacks that public reporting soon attributed to the Russian government—began that same month. Additional releases followed in July through the organization WikiLeaks, with further releases in October and November.
In late July 2016, soon after WikiLeaks’s first release of stolen documents, a foreign government contacted the FBI about a May 2016 encounter with Trump Campaign foreign policy advisor George Papadopoulos. Papadopoulos had suggested to a representative of that foreign government that the Trump Campaign had received indications from the Russian government that it could assist the Campaign through the anonymous release of information damaging to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. That information prompted the FBI on July 31, 2016, to open an investigation into whether individuals associated with the Trump Campaign were coordinating with the Russian government in its interference activities.
That fall, two federal agencies jointly announced that the Russian government “directed recent compromises of e-mails from US persons and institutions, including US political organizations,” and, “[t]hese thefts and disclosures are intended to interfere with the US election process.” After the election, in late December 2016, the United States imposed sanctions on Russia for having interfered in the election. By early 2017, several congressional committees were examining Russia’s interference in the election.
Within the Executive Branch, these investigatory efforts ultimately led to the May 2017 appointment of Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller, III. The order appointing the Special Counsel authorized him to investigate “the Russian government’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election,” including any links or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the Trump Campaign.
As set forth in detail in this report, the Special Counsel’s investigation established that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election principally through two operations. First, a Russian entity carried out a social media campaign that favored presidential candidate Donald J. Trump and disparaged presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Second, a Russian intelligence service conducted computer-intrusion operations against entities, employees, and volunteers working on the Clinton Campaign and then released stolen documents. The investigation also identified numerous links between the Russian government and the Trump Campaign. Although the investigation established that the Russian government perceived it would benefit from a Trump presidency and worked to secure that outcome, and that the Campaign expected it would benefit
electorally from information stolen and released through Russian efforts, the investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.

Same problem in Canada. Our PM and his party, though leading a minority government, received fewer total votes than the Conservative party, yet they won more seats. Kind've a busted system.
How do they do it in Sweden Per? Do all candidates grab their swords and axes and just have a good old fashioned viking honor tournament? Last man standing in each riding gets the seat?

So you are saying nothing was done about it until after Trump was elected.Per wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 12:41 amhttps://www.justice.gov/storage/report.pdfThe Russian government interfered in the 2016 presidential election in sweeping and systematic fashion. We don’t really have ridings. We do the proportional thing. A party that gets 15% of the vote gets 15% of the seats.Mëds wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 9:24 amSame problem in Canada. Well, sort of. We have a 4% threshold, so a party with 3% of the vote gets no seats, and thus 15% might actually give you closer to 16%, but you get the drift.

In fact one could argue the whole affair had the opposite effect on American voters as a whole.
Rumours that Trumpy-poo was in bed (figuratively + literally) with the Russkies may have led many Yanks to vote against him.
But, why do I bother, no one will ever convince the orange-man-bad TDSers that Lord Trump deserved to win the election.

When Assange released that last batch, right before the election, and the FBI director somehow was pressed into going public and saying the investigation was re-opened, in breach of FBI tradition, that says they should not comment on ongoing investigations and they should not make statements that can influence an election. Right there is when Hillary lost.Strangelove wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 11:52 amRight?Strangelove wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 3:37 pm I see.

Rumours that Trumpy-poo was in bed (figuratively + literally) with the Russkies may have led many Yanks to vote against him.
And I don’t think many were swayed to switch candidate, more that a bunch of people that were leaning towards Hillary stayed home and refrained from voting.
And the talk about Trump colluding with the Russians was mainly after the fact, when the election was over, so no, that did not hurt him the slightest.
Of course he didn’t deserve to win. But, why do I bother, no one will ever convince the orange-man-bad TDSers that Lord Trump deserved to win the election.
A fundamental concept in a democracy is that the candidate that gets the most votes win.
I know no other country where the candidate that has less votes can be considered to have won the election.
It’s caused by the US sticking to a relict of the past, the electoral college, which was concieved in a day and age when holding a national election in such a huge country was There were no flights, no radio, no telephones, heck, even no internet. Instead they let each state elect representatives that would then elect the president. It’s an outdated concept that ought to have been thrown on the ash heap of history in the early 20th , so that the people could be allowed to elect the president of their choice.

Trump and Hilly were in an electoral college battle. Trump won.
If Trump and Hilly were in some other kind of battle, Trump would have won that too.
