Boiling oceans could generate massive amounts of fresh water for safe drinking water, irrigation, and hydro electric projects

Meanwhile in South Sudan...
The climate change is affecting weather patterns so that weather tends to get more extreme.
Wet places get wetter. Hot places get hotter. Dry places get dryer.
One of the few winners may actually be Russia.
With a warmer climate large swaths of Siberia that today are inhosptable could turn into arable land.
But the road getting there may be troublesome too. Russia (or rather the Soviet Union) built whole cities on permafrost.
Now as the permafrost is thawing, buildings are sinking into the ground or tipping...

As many countries in Eastern Africa suffer the worst drought in four decades, South Sudan sits uneasily on the opposite end of the spectrum – saturated by years of intense flooding that has affected more than one million people in the country.
To make matters worse, the response to the devastation of the flooding has fallen far short of satisfactory. Humanitarian organisations, UN agencies and governments must step up to address the scale of the crisis and the overwhelming need for food, shelter, medical care and other basic essentials for people impacted by the floods.
Four consecutive years of flooding have left about two-thirds of the country under water, with Jonglei, Northern Bahr El Ghazal, Upper Nile, Unity, Warrap, Western Equatoria, and Lakes States in South Sudan and Abyei Special Administrative Area, all experiencing severe floods in the past few months.
Seasonal flooding of the Nile river and tributaries is typical, however, the flooding in the past few years has been unprecedented. Residents say that the rainy season has been starting earlier and lasting longer. Even the intensity of the rain has been significantly higher than in the past.
The water levels have been so high and the soil so waterlogged that the waters have not fully receded in the intervening dry seasons. Consequently, there has been rapid inundation during the rains, compounding the crisis each consecutive year since 2019.
https://www.msf.org/catastrophic-floods ... outh-sudanThe floods have displaced hundreds of thousands of people, killed millions of animals and destroyed thousands of acres of crops, compounding an escalating food security crisis in the country. The UN World Food Programme estimates that more than 75 per cent of people in South Sudan are in need of food assistance.

Climate change is an ongoing 4.6 billion year old process.
A static human population is only a few hundred years old.

We're not worried about the 4.6 billion year old process. We have time to adapt to that, as does the natural world around us.
We're worried about how that process has accelerated of late.
Re: It's getting warm
Also, we're not worried about the world. The world will be just fine. It's been far hotter before.5thhorseman wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 7:40 amWe're not worried about the 4.6 billion year old process. We have time to adapt to that, as does the natural world around us.

Just worried that we are heading towards a climate not really suitable for mammals, including humans.
75% of people in South Sudan have been forced to leave their homes.
And the flooding of the Nile is nothing new. It has done so for millennia, but the floods are now worse, start earlier, end later, and the land no longer dries up between floods. Thus they can no longer grow crops or tend livestock.
As global warming accelerates, there will be more and more climate refugees.
How much longer can people live in Florida, Bangladesh, the Maldives or the Netherlands?
We are not shocked that the climate is changing, Topper, of course it is, it always has, as you point out, but by releasing excessive amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere we are pushing the climate away from its normal trajectory. Greenland is now warmer than it has been in the last thousand years. And yes, in geology a thousand years is a blink of an eye. But for most people it is longer than we can expect to live. So it is a long time for us.
There was more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere back when the dinosaurs roamed, and far hotter. But we're not suited to live on that kind of a planet. And yes, we will probably be dead and gone before it gets unbearable, but our grandkids will still be around. So we ought to do what we can to make their lives worth living.

The people at El Hierro are setting a good example. We should learn from them.

Maybe they should be moving to Greenland.
