It's getting warm

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Good job, Canada! 8-)
Air Canada just ordered 30 electric planes that can carry passengers up to 500 miles as the race for airlines to cut emissions intensifies
https://www.businessinsider.com/air-can ... &r=US&IR=T

Or did they buy them just because we named the company after an almost in some eays Canadian rock band? :?

This is nothing more that a marketing ploy by AC and the plane manufacturer. We will be lucky to see an electric plane flying regularly in Canada in 15-20 years.

500km range, only 200km in all electric mode (Vancouver - Princeton). Maybe the Vancouver Victoria route is a better idea. Harbour Air is already experimenting with electric aircraft on that route.

What about the regs for sufficient fuel to reach an alternative airport?
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

I assume their must be some similar guideline for electric planes; that they can only plan to use X% of the battery in a flight, so that there is Y% left for rerouting. Or if it is a hybrid, that they have a fuel tank that is only used for emergencies.

Wow! That's a pretty pessimistic view. :o

Meanwhile, the Norwegians have pledged that by 2030 all regional flights within Norway must be electric.

The earth neither gains nor loses one molecule of water it remains a constant.

What happened back when the last warming occurred?

Ice caps melted but they didn’t disappear they just changed. The land on earth flourished with all the extra fresh water and many species were evolved at this time, chimpanzees being one!

The earth has and can handle a 15 degree Fahrenheit increase and flourish.

The current hype is bullshit and control based fear mongering.

We will have another ice age should we make sure we save some coal to help warm it up??? Lofl

The only problem now is the humans - the planet would happily get warmer and cooler - but there are a billion or so people who will have to move when the oceans rise. Take humans out of the equation, and it's all good. ;)

Yeah, the earth can handle climate change. No one is questioning that. But can we? Thousands of elderly people in southern Europe died from a heat wave last summer. These are becoming more and more prevalent.

Wouldn’t the world be better to send air conditioners to the elderly in Europe than all the fuckery that’s currently going on?

Sending one bullet to Moscow might unfuck a few things. ;)

Depends. It would increase energy consumption, and if that is done by using fossil fuels it could accelerate climate change and make it even worse. If it can be done strictly through solar, wind and hydropower, sure.

But I’m also assuming there are areas in Africa and Asia where consequences are even worse than in Europe, but not covered as much in mainstream media. Producing tons of solar powered air conditioners for those areas may help, I guess, if someone is willing to pay for it. Yet any type of air conditioning is really just a sort of heat transfer, so while cooling the inside of a building it will make the outside somewhat warmer. On a minor scale that is probably neglectable, but on a massive scale it will contribute to global warming. So while I definitely think it is necessary to save lives, it is only addressing the symptoms while simultanously contributing to the underlying problem. It is like a heavy smoker being diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and smoking an entire pack to calm his nerves.

Those funny Norwegians.

Become (and stay) a rich country through exporting crude and petrol and preen as a "green".

Speaking of getting warm.

It the middle of October and I’m still wearing shorts and a t shirt outside. Seems we are going into another level of water rationing as we are well below seasonal rain fall average.

At least we can still drink beer on the patio at the local brewer.
