This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

A "Wellerman" refers to the captain of a ship that re-supplies a whaling vessel at sea and takes the harvested oil etc away

Edit: you are correct Corn. Sweet as...
William Weller, owner of the Amersham Brewery in England. Brother and nephews Edward & George
set forth to colonize N.Z. in 1828, and WERE the Wellerman about which this song was written!
