Good Canadian Kid

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Good Canadian Kid

Post by donlever »

There are a number of Canadians out there in pro sports land creating varying degrees of success for themselves.

Auger-Aliassime
Shapavolov
Fernandez
Connors
Hughes
Davies

Et cetera

Since sports outside of hockey are beyond most of you Neandrathal Reprobates I figured I'd throw up a talking to myself, lever pat on the back thread for them.

So congrats to 24 year old Brooke Henderson who today won her 11th professional golf tournament (most by any Canadian all time by 3). Her total includes 1 major championship.

Brooke struggled early this year with some health issues and as well with a club change due to a rule alteration by the LPGA which forced her to play with a shorter driver.

Brooke was striping it today so apparently she has gotten used to the club.

Henderson is a highly talented player and could realistically win 20 tournaments throughout her career as well as more majors. Both would be Canadian records that might just be beyond generational.

Brooke is a gamer and one of the best in the world for sure.

Powerful swing and a unique hitch at the top to get on plane especially with the driver, so a forced change there I can see would take a while to get back on track. Didn’t know they made changes to driver length on the LPGA!

Want to see a few more majors in her trophy case as well!

Yeah, they limited it to 46" in March.

Brook has been hitting a 48" since she was 15.

She started working with the smaller driver when word was passed along earlier that this could happen and lost distance which subsequently, and you as a player know this, you try and gain in other ways which can fuck with your swing and take it off (your) plane.

She finished top 15 in the US Open last week and obviously won yesterday so she appears in groove again after falling from top 5 to 11th in world rankings.

Women's PGA is up in a couple of weeks.

Be interesting....there are a number of really high end players in the women's game currently.

The Korda sisters for instance who are the daughters of ex tennis pro Petr Korda whose son plays the men's tennis tour currently.

Lydia Ko. Lexi Thompson. Danielle Kang.

Beyond the patriotism of following Henderson I am partial to Minjee Lee myself.

Assuming when you say Davies you mean Alphonso Davies?

If you are then right now he is #1 to me, he and his teammates have finally brought some respectability for Canada's men's national soccer team. For so many years it has been an embarrassment that the team failed time and time again to make the World Cup. They were relegated so low in the standings because of so many reasons. I know Sinclair and what she has done for women's soccer, I have seen the success men and women have had in tennis and golf but never in soccer.

I am really excited about the World Cup and I want to see what they can bring.

Speaking of Canadian ladies, the u18 team took gold in woman’s hockey!

Jerome’s son just got taken in the WHL bantam draft and his older sister Jade was on the U18 helping them win gold.

Family has some genes.
