Movie Thread

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Movie Thread

Post by donlever »

Don't know if there is one of these, did not see one.

The Western and Tarantino talk the other day got me thinking about having a movie thread.

Share thoughts on films.

Acting roles.

Et cetera.

I know I've learned a couple of things from these type of discussions.

Topper got me to watch Brazil many moons ago.

Nuckertuzzi the other day mentioned Bone Tomahawk which I've never heard of but will now check out.

Maybe it will create some discussion, maybe it won't.

Perhaps we find out about movies we should see but haven't.

Blob mentioning The Searchers, the Wayne flic with Natalie Wood the other day for instance.

Anyway, favorite sports flic?

The Mighty D....

Nah, Raging Bull.

Top sport flicks that I can continue watching over and over...

The Natural - Robert Redford (the book was bloody depressing though)
Slapshot - The Hansons, the over-the-top violence, the lines that are burned into memory... all good, but more for Paul Newman's understated performance (and actually learning to skate for the role)
Bull Durham - Don't like baseball much, but the movie is great

Obviously a lot more on this list of great sports movies.

Badlands was awesome!

Nice array of sports films Hank.

Slapshot definitely in my top 5.

Never been a Costner guy but Bull Durham was a solid film too.

The first Rocky.

It's to bad Stallone has tainted the movies legacy by becoming, well, Stallone.

Walter Matthau's Bad News Bears when I was a kid.

The first Major League was Ok too.

For a guy who doesn't like baseball that much, I sure watched a lot of baseball movies.

Just a bit outside

I was gonna say about baseball. Apparently movies is where you get your ball fix.

Bad News Bears original was a good watch as a kid.

The greaseball, Kelly Leak was the actors name, was also in another sporting type move called Breaking Away, about an American kid who was enamored with the Italian cycling road race team and drove his old man nuts throughout the process.

A decent watch as well.

Leak carved himself out a decent career in the trade actually, been in a number of things over the years including a role as the vigilante Rorschach in the Watchmen movie.

Right, Jackie Earle Haley was his name.

My favourite moment was when Lupus made that catch in the championship game.

Actually, Major League 1 was a very watchable and funny movie.

I guess there are way more entertaining baseball movies made than any other sport... considering it was America's favorite pastime (actually, it's war mongering, invasions, sanctions, imperialism... but that's for another thread)

Right...Kelly Leak was the role.

I'm all over the place here today.

Bad grammar, misspelling, misinterpreting posts, misnamed actors.

Should go back to bed and start again.

Also...

They make movies about those things no?
