I think Iran felt they needed to 'respond' but also didn't want to poke the bear. They sent 300 missiles and likely expected them all to get shot down. But at least they 'responded' and with luck Israel Netanyahu won't do something stupid now again.

The ship the Iranian commandos seized was a privately owned freighter, not a container ship. This is big for a couple reasons. This route has yet to contend with pirates or terrorists, and it was an oil tanker. Insurance rates will now go up for this this route and transporter, thus having more a negative impact on inflation.

Jordan, Turkey and the UAE also assisted in downing drones.

The Sunni Muslims hate the Persians more than they hate Jews.

An all out conflict in the region at this point will have strange allies and foes.
The Syrian government is pro-Russia and pro-Iran, but most of the Syrians are not.
Lebanon is also split, with Hezbollah being close to Iran while most other political parties are not.
Jordan is pro-USA, but sympathizes with the Palestinians, while trying to have a peaceful coexistence with Israel.
Qatar, who are squeezed between the Saudis and Iran, are trying to be friends with everyone. Cooperating with Israel and funding Hamas.

It could easily become Iran against everybody, but some countries are on the fence.
