I would like to go to Mexico sometime in July/August for 1 week.

Where should we go?

Cancun vs. Puerto Vallarta vs. Los Cabo

Mostly just sitting in the sun and doing some walking around.

I am a pretty boy so don't want to end up someone's "best friend" so want a safe place.

Been to Cancun and Vallarta. Prefer the latter.

Cancun is party central, its only reason for being is to cater to tourists.

Cancun has much nicer beaches, Vallarta is a better town (The Malecon is a nice stroll). Both will offer the traditional touristy shit.

If you do Vallarta, check out Las Caletas.

Why is PV so much cheaper?

Almost $600 per person cheaper.

Merida or Oaxaca

Skip the beaches and enjoy.

Cannot believe the "pretty boy" comment went unaddressed until now!

You would figure that Reef would be more interested in snorkeling and seeing fish in their natural habitat - but he's more worried about getting 'stuck' in Mexican jail.

If he really is the pretty boy he claims to be I think his only concern should be that his new bestie starts with the taquitos instead of the burritos!

... try mixing it up with some si/gracias/Buenos-días/por-favor culero/comemierda/pendejo etc.

Here's a good ice-breaker if things ever seem a little tense in a bar, smile, lift your glass and say:

Hit Taxsco for the argenta.

The Cancun side during July/Aug is just starting into the hurricane season, so you may not get that great sunny weather (usually a day or two of short torrential downpour then clouds the rest of a 7 day stay).

South of Cancun is Playa del Carmen - good restaurants, still has the great Caribbean side beach (though with the hurricanes there has been some erosion), much more laid back than Cancun.

PV is good, just doesn't have as nice a beach as Cancun side.

Only been in Cabo for 7 hours, but the beach is nice and there is always Cabo Wabo.

I am currently in Belize. Been here a month, home next week.
