Let's let the people decide!

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

How do you interpret "the poll was false"?

It simply means they got the results wrong.

Let's let the people decide!

So, I don't know, when referring to false polls, does that simply mean that the poll got a different answer than the actual outcome, or does it imply deceit? I don't know, but a lot of people are saying this. You decide.

None. All. Hypothetical polls.

It's just me and doc discussing whether a poll being false means something different than a poll being wrong.
Are the words just synonyms, or does false imply deceit, ie being wrong on purpose?

I just figured rather than debating it, we could resolve the question about polls with a poll.

A poll can't be 'false'. It's only an estimate of an outcome. There are confidence limits on the prediction. The only way you could say a poll is wrong (false is a strange word to try to apply to a poll) is if it predicted something as 100% probability with 0% uncertainty. Both these values are mathematically impossible.

However, I suppose you could fabricate the results. Then it's just fiction.

TRUE or FALSE: Electoral polls predicting a landslide victory by Hillary were wrong.

Well, Doc keeps talking about "fake" polls and "false" polls.
To me it sounds like it implies deceit.
