Vancouver Transit Referendum

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

I will vote yes . A half percent sales tax is fuck all really . They have to get the money from somewhere . Just be thankful this isn't the NDP because we would all be getting a punch in the mouth to the tune of ten to fifteen percent on our income tax to fund these types of projects.

I do think Translink needs to be gutted and rebuilt however . Too many fat cats with their hands in the pie and not enough elected officials involved . The province need to have the best and brightest involved in these types of projects .

That's the problem, it's like throwing millions upon millions upon a shitty corporation of Translink whom can't run a corp properly, fuck they are already paying for two CEO's now due to their incompetence, this corp probably is the worst run business in BC.

I live in Langley, so I'm trying to figure out why I should vote yes. We're going to get screwed either way, but it's hard to justify what Langley residents spend now.

Eventually Langley will get the sky train . I am in Poco and it's doubtful it comes out here within ten years .

If the tax passes Langley is supposed to get a minimal amount of LRT coming from Surrey Centre, down Fraser Highway, and ending in the downtown Langley City exchange or the Willowbrook Mall. If that project is funded by the tax, it will be one of the lowest priorities, and completed "by 2027" according to Translink. That's the closest thing Langley is going to get to Skytrain anytime soon.

It'll start at 0.5% but it will go up.

Still, it's necessary to get these goofs who buy Mazda2's for cheap and take up valuable driving space.

Langley is supposed to get LRT and a b-line with this cash

I'll be voting yes,the money for these transit projects needs to be raised not borrowed, the Port Mann is costing a $150 million in interest annually right now.
The 2 CEO's and the Compass Card fuckups are the 2 biggest factors in the No vote.
I love how the media allways trots out a Jordan Bateman clip, the CTF(Canadian Taxpayers Federation) are so insignificant in this it's a joke.

You gotta be some kinda Darwin winner to vote no to this...unless you love time sitting in your car going no where fast. I don't travel far for work and home but this has to be farsighted as it will only get worse in the next 10 years as density grows.
Yes TransLink are shitheads but with Pattison onboard it will all be OK right? :eh:
I love every move Jim Benning makes 8-)

It stops at Coquitlam Centre/ Douglas College . I am less than ten minutes away as I am at the bottom of Burke Mtn. Point is it won't go to Poco or Pitt Medows or Maple Ridge for twenty years

Your set then! You can ride your shopping cart down to Coq.Center, hop on the skytrain, transfer at the hub and you'll be at the Astoria swilling pints of Lucky lager with the dude in half an hour :rockin:

with the extended night service there will be no need to leave early or sleep in a dumpster anymore
