Wow, I learned to canoe on Sasamat back when it was a hike down off the road and there may be 6 families there on a sunny summer Sunday. Can't imagine what it is like now.
When I was very young my folks had a piece of property at Belcara so we spent a bunch of time killing star fish on the rocks at Belcara Park. Sadly the folks had to sell the land during a protracted IWA enforced holiday. Don't think I've been out that way since the mid '70s.
I remember before the road went in, then they made a public beach at the far end. It used to be pretty quiet back then until all hell broke loose and you couldn't find a parking spot any more.
When I left VCR in 98 the logs were there still I think.
Too many people ruined the good spot .
How about Hawkins Pickle? Is that old swimming hole over-run as well?

You can find overpriced anywhere... see Ornellaia. The markup on US wines in BC is one of the worst in the system, don't know if it's a built-in hedge against currency fluctuation or what, but bang for the buck on CA-WA-OR wines is poor. Oregon sees lots of good reviews on their Pinot, but it'll cost you.
Topper... is there any 'great' environment for Pinot? It's a difficult grape to work with in general.
Blue Mountain (OK Falls) and La Frenz (Naramata) Pinot Noir is pretty good and consistent. I'm not exactly sure where you can get it though... I get both direct from the winery. The BM in particular is acceptable value (for Pinot) at $24.
Gonna give this Blue Mtn Pinot a go next, thx Puck. I enjoyed this Helios Pinot from the OK on Sunday - $21. Another BC Pinot I like is from See You Later. Only $19

From what I know pinot is helped by cool foggy sea air so the coasts of Oregon, New Zealand.... make those better areas than most.
The US pricing in BC is a hold over from the days of the shit plonk gala keg Okanogan swill that had to be protected from those nasty predatory US makers of the same shit. Back when every wine in your fridge had a screw cap and a happy animal on the label.
Lately started drinking South African wines.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.
I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Priced like it is, most assuredly but I will attest to it being the absolute pinnacle of a fine red wine. Everything at the top of its game is exorbinantly priced...a 97 Ornellaia at $800 a bottle is no different.
No argument from me UDL. I'm sure it's fantastic. About the closest thing I've had to it would be Tignanello - also a Super Tuscan style. But the time to buy these great wines is early in their development. I used to enjoy Barossa Valley Estates Black Pepper Shiraz... it was $45 at the time (late 90s?). Now it's $99. Around the same time Cos D'Estournel from St Emilion was about $120. Now it's $300 in a bad vintage and for the '09 it was $888. It's not just inflation, it's demand. Especially on bottles that have gain cult-like status.
