The Future of CC

If it's in here, it's probably a good idea to read it.

The Future of CC

Post by Brian CC »

Last night the web host I use to host my websites basically held me hostage and disabled my account for terms of service violations. The main culprit of this TOS violation was this board, because it' a few updates behind, which is my fault.

They would not reactivate my site unless I upgraded the board and patched the issues that were causing a slow down on their servers. I could not do that unless I got access to the site.

Their only solution was for me to upgrade to a VPS (Virtual Private Server). After arguing with them for several hours, they refused to activate the site and I was forced to upgrade my hosting at a cost of $300.00/US a year.

I have upgraded for now, and still have to fix this board, because it's full of security leaks and holes apparently for the scum of the internet to penetrate.

I have run this site for 20 plus years, and after this I'm not sure I want to keep doing it. The ads don't pay for the hosting, and I'm not really thrilled about how much this is costing now.

I'm asking you for solutions. Any thoughts?

I sent you a PM.

In the meantime, we should all get some donations in to Brian.

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

A few bucks kicked this way would be great, thank you Art.

Paypal are crooks too, so if anyone wants to donate, you could send a direct interac transfer to brian@canuckscorner.com.

Don't feel any pressure to do so. I've never been in this for the money...but I'm also not in it to lose a ton either.

Thanks guys.

I'll donate, and i say we do the annual hockey pool as a fundraiser for the site and charge $20 an entry!

15 people and we cover most of the cost!

That or I'll do my best to increase traffic to the site by doing something controversial again!

I'm down with the pool idea. But I'll donate if it comes down to that.

Thanks guys, and if anyone does want to use PayPal it's the same address, brian@canuckscorner.com.

I like the idea of including a little something in the pool fee as well. Every little bit helps!
